Plex TV series agent doesn’t seem to recognize “little rascals” tv show properly.

Using tvdb agent recognizes it and matches it to Little Rascals - TheTVDB.com. That’s what I want, but I don’t want to use that agent.

Using Plex TV series matches it to a cartoon series from the 1980s, although it shows a poster for the live action series.

Attempted solutions:

  • I tried to “fix match”, but the proper show doesn’t appear in the list.
  • I searched for “our gang” and that didn’t exist either.
  • I tried moving the seasons to “movies” library, but that scanner didn’t want to acknowledge their existence.

Which folder has been added to the tv shows library?
It must be /mnt/plexMedia/TV.
Not one folder level above, nor below of that.

Check the properties of this library.
On the Advanced tab, disable “Prefer local meta tags” if it is checked.

You can also try to help Plex to better match the show, by including the year in the folder name. Like that /mnt/plexMedia/TV/Little Rascals (1922).

Perform the Plex Dance

Once the show has been scanned, go to the top level of it
and Edit it.
Go to the Advanced tab and set the “Episode ordering” to “TheTVDB (aired)”.
Then Refresh Metadata of the whole show.

Additionally, there might be also an issue with the Plex metadata proxy. There are some metadata “bleeding in” from the cartoon re-make.

I’ve notified the developers about this.

FYI… the animated show over on TMDB was linked to the wrong show on IMDB so I have updated it → The Little Rascals (TV Series 1982-1982) - Changes — The Movie Database (TMDB). Hopefully it’ll help when the changes creep there way into plex.

Interesting I could not find the original show https://thetvdb.com/series/little-rascals on TMDB which may in itself cause problems but lets see.

Follow-up:

Following the above instructions (without the year) corrected the episode metadata. The show metadata is still wrong, but I can live with that.

Adding the year resulted in no matches at all, but I think that’s because the show metadata says 1955.
1955 sort of makes sense though, as IMDb says 1955 is the year of “Television syndication package of the classic 1929-1938 shorts from the “Our Gang Comedies” movie series.”
