I have alot of LIVE bootlegs albums all in FLAC but none of them are showing up in LIVE ALBUMS
What am I doing wrong?
If the albums aren’t listed as live albums in MusicBrainz (or they aren’t in MusicBrainz at all), you’ll have to tag them locally. For FLAC, make sure there are two RELEASETYPE tags, one set to “album” and the other set to “live”.
ok…not in [MusicBrainz. I use MP3TAG how do I do the RELEASETYP album and live ? are these two seperate RELEASETYPE fields ?
I don’t remember if a single tag with a value like album;live works, but two separate tags works for me. In mp3tag, select all tracks, then right click > Extended Tags:
From there, click ‘Add Field’:
And set RELEASETYPE to ‘album’:
Then, add another field, this time setting a new RELEASETYPE tag, setting it to ‘live’, resulting in something like this:
thats seems to be working…can compilations be done the same way ?
Yes, you can similarly add album and compilation RELEASETYPEs to have Plex categorize it as a compilcation.

To get the obvious out of the way, did you save the tags after changing them in mp3tag? Also, do you have ‘Prefer local metadata’ enabled for the library (Manage Library > Edit > Advanced > Prefer local metadata)?
yes after it writes the tags I do a save and yes the perfer local metadata is enabled. Its weird. It works for some and not for all.
well I got it figured out… Can the same thing be done with TRIBUTE albums. I have a ton of KISS tribute albums
