I have been trying for days to get the recording function to work again on my freeNAS PMS using an hdhomerun. No matter what I do I cannot get the recordings to start. They always error out with a “no write access to destination” error.
The perms and ownership on the dirs are correct. This used to work but since upgrading its stopped.
This all started when I upgraded several months ago to a 1.15 version and hasnt worked since.
I have tried everything i can think of including going back to that original version. Its a shame because it worked really well when it was working.
Silicon dust is no help, and i cant get help from the plex folks
I’ve been wrestling with a problem wit the DVR in the upgrade between 1.15 and 1.16. I’m running on a Windows 2013 server. But, my fix might still be worth a try. Downgrade to 1.15 and delete your DVR in Plex. Then upgrade to 1.16 and add a new DVR.
I have been having similar difficulties for some time now though not with all recordings. It appears to be somewhat random, some record and process correctly while others fail with “cannot move media…”
While investigating, I have discovered that the failed episodes and movies were recording into a .grab folder inside the recycle bin on my synology. The successful ones are recorded into their correct respective .grab folders in the libraries. I can actually see the file “growing” in the recycle bin examples. Also, it has been difficult to identify because very shortly after failing, the “bad record” is removed completely from the recording schedule view covering up the fail.
I cannot see why plex would create and point to temp folders inside the recycle bin. BTW, giving plex full permissions in the recycle bin did not resolve the post-processing which implies the possibility of unequal pointers at different points in the processing… Let me know where you would like me to send logs if you need them.
I’ve also had recording failures, stuttering and even errors locking things up when watching live TV. Given all the other issues such as having to now move to a paid EPG provider, having to downgrade Plex to an earlier version just to reset your DVR devices before having to redo the Plex upgrade and what appears to me to be a hard set limit of 11 categories to choose from for recording destinations (I have over 20 so half aren’t available to select in the drop down menu), it appears to me a lot more resources need to allocated to the Live TV/DVR functions of Plex to bring it up to a suitable level as far as feature implementation and quality control are concerned.
Each of the last few upgrades have caused more issues than benefits.
Is anybody from PLEX reading these messages, or are we totally on our own? They gladly take the money for the plex pass I have purchased, but dont provide any sort of support. Sure would be nice to have a official answer, as I am sure we are not the only ones seeing this issue
Hi,
yes, the issue is presently well-known.
You probably have to wait for the next release : since the Version 1.16.3.1451, it works fine.
Nevertheless, you will have to delete the old recorder and reconfigure a new one with the new EPG/channel provider.
For my issue with the recordings going directly to the recycle bin, there has been no change. I am now on Version 1.16.3.1402. Today, 2 out four episodes of 3rd Rock recorded ok, another 2 went straight inot the recycle bin and I have to assume “could not move media” because the recording screen no longer shows errors for more than a few minutes.
If the issue is presently well known, why not fix it? This has been broken since a 1.15 version. I have tried to delete the device, upgrade, install new, it doesnt matter. Upgrading to the latest version also did nothing.
Has anyone taken a look at this yet? The problem is getting worse, I even removed PLEX completely from my Synology and re-installed. First day, recorded 8 shows and 2 recorded dirrectly into the recycle bin, next day 10 shows, 5 went into the recycle bin. Today I recorded 12 shows and 8 went into the recycle bin???
Thanks, I am definitely running Version 1.17.0.1709… One more note, while I was rebuilding my NAS Plex server, I moved recording to my Shield Plex Server with the same results, that was a week ago however. If you need those logs I can move some of my recording schedule to the Shield again and get fresh logs. I have attached my logs from the Synology server.Plex Media Server Logs_2019-09-27_08-31-42.zip (8.5 MB)
