Live TV and recorded TV playback stutter, buffering, and pixelation using Plex Server 1.18.0.1846

I have this problem also. It seems to only occur with football OTA. Plex please fix this.

Adding my feedback. Linux Mint user here with Hauppauge quadHD tuner card. The beta fixed my LiveTV stuttering and dropout problems. 1.17 was great the 1.18 release wasn’t. Thanks for the fix in the beta.

Please try the latest beta release.

After some more testing it would seem that Plex for iOS is the problem.

Listening to music through the Plex Media Player for Desktop (Windows) - no problem.
Same song on Plex for iOS (iPhone) - stuttering.
Same song in Windows Media Player - no problem.

iOS 13.1.2 (latest)
Plex app for iOS also the latest available.

Here is where it gets interesting though…

Same song on iPad Pro (iOS 13.1.2) and latest Plex app: No problem!

So - it would seem to a problem specific to the iPhone. Iøve tried to restart the phone but problem remains.

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app?

Regards,

Jim

What model iPhone and what model iPad?

Are you streaming in both cases? And if so, are the audio quality settings in Plex the same on both devices?

I just tried that now… and that seems to have solved the problem

I installed the Beta version which resolved the problem. Thanks.

Hi. I have problem lately that it sometimes… feels like it fastforwards the image and not the sound… AND when it doesnt do that it constant doing hickups. = it starts over every minute… now and then from 15-20secounds before… Running Windows PMS and ATV4K… was running Beta on both… went back up public… no luck… went back to 1.17… PMS no luck… have no problem when playing the TV from VLC… any idea?.. help plz…

I have to the same problem with this server update. Reverted back to version plexmediaserver_1.17.0.1841-d42cfa161_amd64.deb and have no issues after downgrade.

Same issues here too. I have stutter and pixelation on both live TV and recorded TV. I have no issues when watching TV using the HDHomeRun app on my Roku though. Appears they have fixed it in 1.18.0.1944 release. Just upgraded and it is all looking good now.

I am having the same issues described in this thread. Unfortunately I do not have a copy of 1.17 - just 1.16. Can anyone link me to a 1.17 Windows (INTEL) version?

Thanks,

Did you try upgrading to the new release, 1.18.0.1944? That’s been fixing the issue for everyone.

1.18.0.1944 is now a public release, please try that before posting that you too have this issue.

Just installed latest public 1.18.0.1944… still same problem… It plays for… 1-2 minutes… and suddently it jumps back 15-20 seconds in time… then it contiues for 1-2 minutes… and same thing… jumps back 15-20 seconds…
Running a ATV4K but just tried on webbrowser and its the sameproblem… help…

I still have pixelation and HDCP dropouts on my Roku streaming stick + with HDHomerun, live tv, PMS (1944) when watching 1080i feeds. I had no problem all summer. 1944 gave a slight improvement in the frequency of the buffer running, but its still an issue. I’m new to the forum, and new to Plex, and happy to test and provide logs if I’m pointed in the right direction. I’ve been trying to troubleshoot the issue every night for about 2 weeks. My server is Windows, Xenon II, with Nvidia P400. When transcoding, the GPU doesn’t go above 10% no matter what settings I try.

…And yet in this post is a list of Plex Employees acknowledging that there is an issue and actively working on a fix… A fix that will be found due to all the Plex pass users providing logs and information that will ultimately help the Plex employees fix the problem. Your post helps no body with anything. You may not have seen in a previous post, but the plex developers are not able to replicate in house and therefore will depend on us to provide info that will lead them to a fix. (Server logs, etc.) Sure it sucks, but they are not hiding from the problem. I had an issue that I reported a year or so back and they were on it right away and got a fix shortly after. I say offer to help by providing logs from your individual system or just stay off the forum.

Think about all the platforms that the plex server can be installed onto (all require something a bit different, and all the platforms that the player can be installed on (all requiring something different… not to mention all the networking stuff that needs to happen in the background that you don’t even know about.

Installed Version 1.18.0.1944

Playing Live TV and DVR shows still shows pixellation for the first 45 for recorded or live tv.
Playing with any other client: no pixellation.

So I have reverted back to the 1.17.0.1841 version to allow me to use my HDHomeRun and Live DVR functions in Plex without stuttering. Seems from what I gather that the issues are specifically with MPEG2 files, which is what format HDHomeRun streams in. I tried the latest 1.18.0.1944 and it didn’t fix things for me so reverted back. If it helps, I’m running Plex in a docker on Unraid with an AMD Ryzen 1700, 32GB RAM on a GIGABYTE GA-AX370-Gaming 5 MB. Using 1.17.0.1841 works without issue. Oh and my client is an Amazon Fire Stick 4K connected by ethernet cable.

The changes made around hardware encoding in 1.18 really messed up the Plex Media Server. My users are all complaining about severe unwatchable pixelation after a few minutes of decent playback. I need hardware encoding enabled to support the number of streams my server is being asked to generate so turning it off is a non-starter.

Why the Plex team doesn’t have a page that allows you to download past versions is beyond me. If they are going to release buggy updates that’s fine - but make it easy for people to roll back!

Here is the link to 1.17 for all those who want to roll back like I did:
