Live TV Buffering on Android TV & showing paused on dashboard 8.13.0/8.12.0 now 8.14.0

Server Version#: Beta
Player Version#: Public
Tuner Make/Model: Hdhomerun

Don’t expect much support from past experience but for anyone having Live TV Buffering on Android TV & showing paused on dashboard on version 8.13.0/8.12.0 the only fix is to back date to 8.11.0. This came up in beta and was not fixed. The buffer is random but will lock the client in a constant spinning yellow circle buffer. Also happens when opening channel. Looks to be initiated when the channel is being duplicated.

Thanks for this. Been frustrated w/ the buffering for weeks and downgrading got everything working again… Hopefully they fix it soon so i can turn updates back on.

Cheers!

Yw, yes 2 employees are working on it:).

With the Roku duplicating another Roku issue, can you try that with both of them doing different transcoding? As in, one is doing it at 720p, and the other doing it as something else? I feel like I have experienced this with another person remotely who also has the same roku as I do, and it started getting “confused” as to where it was at in the buffer chain so to speak when we were watching the same thing, but not as a “watch together”. It went away as soon as I changed my quality level downward a level, even though I am the one who is local.

@SystemAdministrator-2020, Not sure on that but they were able to duplicate the issue and they’re also working on that but that’s a different team.

Always concerned about downgrading. If they make schema changes to the database and then you downgrade, wouldn’t you risk corrupting something?

@jdammann On a client device nope. I’ve never had an issue. On a server it’s possible. But that’s more on Emby;). You don’t have to backdate the server. Just the client device.

They are still working on it by the way.

I’m pretty much just getting ignored now by the primary Plex employee that’s working on it:(. This will be the third employee that’s blew it off( if that’s what’s happening). Hate contacting the CEO but I guess he’s the next one up:(. I’ll wait till the end of this week as that will mark almost two months with this problem and over 2 1/2 weeks with this employee. Not giving up on you guys! I don’t mind ruffling some feathers.

Does the latest AndroidTV client update fix this bug? There are no bug fixes listed in the release notes.

No it doesn’t. I have the same issue on my Shield

Nope.

Crap. Should we just move to Emby? Is cablecard liveTV and DVR playback stable on Emby? It’s a little hard to figure out from their documentation and forums.

It’s just crazy that this bug that breaks core functionality has not been fixed yet, much less introduced without being caught in testing and widespread rollout.

Emby for android works really well, like no buffering!! Its a learning curve. Emby also has amazing support!! Even though Plex has poor support there platform is more mature. I would give it a little longer. I run both. I will chime Elan (CEO) in by the end of the week, but there is no reason for it to get that far, just need a response acknowledging its still being worked on from the employee working on it.

Ok. Emby has no builtin commercial skip either?

No. You have to process the files afterwards. Skip forward is really quick though. I gave up on watching recordings on Plex because commercial skip doesn’t work anymore. I still use Plex for DVR though because it has options to choose the library to record to. Emby only allows you to pick between a movie library and a tv show library.

Have the same exact issue. I had to roll back to earlier version of server to stop the family from wanting to kill me.

:grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: same here. It will be fixed, this is the way.

With the release of Android public build 8.14.0 I find it important to finally address multiple people in this post and finally get to the end of this run around. This is not to call any employee out, I think there’s just possibly too much on his or hers plate. This has been going on for way too long now, starting with version 8.12.0 and now all the way to version 8.14.0. Most of these users are not beta testers and shouldn’t have to go through these problems. We are paid users that want to be able to use live TV and some users don’t have the know-how to roll back their Android client nor should they have too. These issues should be addressed especially when they’re brought up during beta testing. It’s evident that communication between employees is very poor and transparency with the Plex user base really needs to be addressed. Transparency starts with having this on the thread and not as a private message, the community needs to know what’s going on (even if it’s overwhelming at times that’s what moderators are for). A leadership role needs to be taken on the Android client-side in addressing the problems. On top of the buffer Loop issue that’s been going on for over two and a half months we now have a ghost dashboard live TV issue with the latest server release, ongoing unable to pause live TV, Channel duplication, and an ongoing issue with hubs being out of order and multiplied( this has been a mess for quite some time). I will be posting in three threads with the buffering problem to let users know to look here for a reply, as my private messages have gone unacknowledged from the person working on it… Hopefully. I have also tagged Elan as I believe it’s important that we all work together and this is not the first time Android has really gone astray. Thank you for your time!

Also as a lifetime subscriber how do I continue donating to help fund research and development? I asked another employee and never got an answer. I find this important as I’m passionate about the software and believe that funding is very important!
