Seem to be struggling with DVR. Issues I am facing:
After watching a channel for a period of time (around 30+mins usually) the channel will then start to cease, circle will spin and resume every 2 seconds.
Server activity displays many “recording live tv” sessions even though nobody is watching anything and empty dashboard. HDHomeRun also reports no active connections. At this point the DVR is completely unusable - attempting to tun into a channel provides a “Playback Error - Could not tune channel” error. I have to reboot the server to fix this.
I’ve attached the log - sorry no idea how to read it!
Server Version#: 1.21.4.4079 (Synology DS218+)
Player Version#: All clients
Tuner Make/Model: HDHomeRun CONNECT QUATRO HDHR5-4DT. Signal and quality is over 90% all the time.
Guide/Lineup name:
Using XMLTV?:
Channel number/Name: Plex Media Server Logs_2021-03-09_07-34-43.zip (5.3 MB)
I have had this issue as well a couple days ago. I noticed that I could no longer tune into any channel, then came to the dashboard and saw many simultaneous recordings, but there was no activity on the HomeRuns. It would not go away until I rebooted the server (not just restarted the PMS). I am on version 1.21.4.4079 running on Windows Server 2019.
I do not have any logs from there, just wanted to say that I have experienced this as well. I will take a log snapshot next time I see it happen.
Would need exact times and what actions taken and when to try and relate to the logs. Also would help getting corresponding client app logs
Sticking with Android for now - what device model and app version? The device showing in the logs was on IP 192.168.1.15
Picking on one of the live TV sessions, I can see that channel 3 was tuned at Mar 08, 2021 15:42:29
There is no evidence of any reported buffering and the playback continued until 15:56:00 when the android app reported to the server that playback was stopped.
Did you stop playback then ? There is no evidence of any delays in servicing requests before playback was stopped.
With regards to stuck live tv sessions not being released - this may have arisen when switching channels to tune - will need to look at this further - but again client app logs with the server logs would help
In regards to timing - the wife tied my noose because she couldn’t watch the Harry, Meghan and Oprah interview which aired Monday 8 March between 9pm and 10.50pm on channel 3 - I suspect it was around this time.
She also likes to watch channel 3 most mornings and I asked her to keep it on yesterday morning (8th) to see how long it lasted - it was then when you can expect to see the freezing issues.
192.168.1.15 is a FireTV 4K Stick (App version: 8.13.2.23227)
OK - in addition to the above, I have managed to replicate the stuttering issue after playing live TV for around 90 minutes. I attach logs for both the server and client.
Hello this is actually an ongoing problem that’s being addressed hopefully. Sixones hopefully is working on it, but isn’t actually not responding. But he is aware of it. This is the third employee that’s addressed the problem in the past 2 and a half months. @sa2000 big wheel also knows about it and is following. That’s covering the buffering part but the other part of it being on the dashboard that is something new with the server updates and I don’t know if anyone’s working on that. But that happened in the past 2 server updates. Latest Beta is yet to have the dashboard problem though for me at least. Buffering Channel duplication problem is ongoing:(
Never mind the latest beta is still holding live TV and DVR sessions even though no one’s watching. I ended up back dating my server. @sa2000 I’m going to add you to the private message with the logs for the buffering problem I don’t have any information on the sessions getting held up as this is new. There’s been no traction on the buffering problem so hopefully you can possibly get them motivated:).
@InfernoJaffa usually mine closes locks up at the 90 minute mark but that’s interesting that your locks up at 30 minutes. Some of this has to do with Channel duplication. Is anybody else watching live TV at the same time? It’s funny as I’m writing this I just hit the 90-minute mark and it just started buffering every 2 seconds in almost like a Loop.
This is what I’m pretty sure you’re experiencing and this is what a ton of users are experiencing right now. This doesn’t have to do with the dashboard problem this has to do with the buffering. They’re two separate issues( dashboard, server sw- buffer Loop, client sw).
I suspect I am also around the 90 minutes mark on most occasions. Yes, same as the YT video you shared.
Looks to me like a Plex sided issue which they are yet to understand - I am happy to help test and diagnose and have shared both client and server logs which capture the event.
Thank you, yes they have quite a few logs. Just trying to find the right employee to take the time and fix it:). The buffering problem has been happening for about two and a half months now. The dashboard problem just started so hopefully they’ll fix that right away. I just added Sa2000 to a private chat that has all the logs so maybe that’ll get it moving. I’ll keep you guys posted.
Maybe the buffering is effecting the Plex team too? Each time they get to the resolution, groundhog day kicks in and sends them back to the start. Not helpful, sorry!
90 minute buffer Loop fix alpha / beta is ready for testing! This update is a lot better. It may have taken a long time but I think it fixes a large amount of buffering / time out problems I have tested in the short amount of time its been available.
YW, Bear in mind this is Alpha, problems so far are recent channels are not updating correctly and the channels seem to load quicker but they’re not loading correctly sometimes. But that’s on a shield, I don’t have a firestick to test:). If you have problems let us know!
