@Craig_Holliday are you, or another plex employee/dev, able to give us some insights to where things are at on the LiveTV issues described in this thread and affecting all of us who are heavy users of LiveTV on iOS in particular?
The original poster’s list is a good summary of what we are all experiencing.
We know you are probably busier than a one-armed-paper-hanger, but if we could get some kind of update on the LiveTV issues and the roadmap for some of the most critical fixes/features (i.e. "Error Occurred The operation couldn’t be completed, automatic channel preview stressing our tuners/stream allocations, audio issues, etc…), that would go a long way to helping those of us holding out for this to get better.
Those of us with spouses, children, and other family screaming at us would truly appreciate it!
Besides all the obvious bugs already reported, the Android Mobile client (.19) crashes for me almost every time I try to change the channel. With this I mean that I can tune to a channel just fine (it has bugs, but it starts and I can watch) but as soon as I press another channel the client crashes.
I just came to report this bug, I held off for a little while hoping that this would have been resolved by now with the updates to the “new experience” plex app. However, alas it has not. For the record, I am using the current public release, released today (2025.20.0). I am using the officially supported HDHomeRun. Watching recorded things in Plex works fine, I get sound and video. However, actually watching something live just does not work. Attached are screenshots of trying to play BBC One vs trying to play BBC One HD live. As you can see standard definition channels do not load at all, and HD channels do load but with no sound (HD channels did not originally load at all until a couple of updates ago). Prior to the “new experience” plex app update everything worked. Plex’s integration was the whole reason why I got the HDHomeRun in the first place. Instead if I want to watch live TV, I just have to use the HDHomeRun app instead of using Plex
agree, I do have a VBOX Gateway and exactly the same error. The New Experience of the app is simply not usable. I disabled on my Apple TV the Auto-update as the current version having all in (photos, music, movies and DVR) is much better than what is coming “new” and broken. I’m strongly hoping it gets better soon, as LiveTV is not working at all.
Same here ……. Have a picture but no sound using HD Home Run. Like you I spent a lot of money on HD Home Run as it was recommended to use with Plex for live tv. Sadly it no longer works in the iOS app. My iPad I haven’t updated for 4 months now. Live tv works every time with sound playing HD and Sd programs no problem. This proves it’s the updated iOS app that’s the issue as the fault is only with the new version July 8th.
At this point, three and a half months later, and still Plex hasn’t delivered a basic Live TV feature, it seems entirely possible that no one at Plex either uses this feature, or is currently working on it.
So many people, over 25+ threads, are taking the time to provide information, logs, screenshots…and keep investing more time in updating with each new release.
Meanwhile, not one response here from Plex. Please can we get at least the basic features working, guide data, playback with both video and audio. These are not rare bugs, it’s the same for EVERYONE who uses the product.
@elan / @BigWheel / @Craig_Holliday / @McWanke any chance someone can confirm who we can work with to help with engaged user feed-back on Live TV experience.
I am as unhappy about this as you but one of the Plex dev’s recently stated that they are working on it and hopefully will be fixed in one of the upcoming releases. I will try and find the post.
I hoped this was resolved in 2025.20 with the “Fixed missing guide airings for PMS Live on initial load in some situations”, sadly it wasn’t.
I was then hoping the 2025.21 beta might improve a bit more.
Sadly neither was true. For me Live TV is the only reason that I currently use Plex on mobile (I moved my family to another client for a while until the app stabilised, and hope to move back at some point, and to be fair the mobile Plex client is in a ever improving position, especially with core media playback and downloads…….with a few caveats).
Hoping that 2025.22 fixes at least the Guide data, OPUS transcode audio issue and also the most annoying bug “Error Occured The operation couldn’t be completed. CoreMediaErrorDomain…….” That all add up to a broken product……..
Bugs that aren’t rare, that don’t just impact one or two people, but every single paying user of Plex. The absence of Plex staff enagement on this is interesting to say the least.
Yes, really annoying that Live TV is a Plex Pass feature (which means they have received money for it!) yet it still is broken in a lot of areas. PP features should be some of the higher priority items to be resolved.
Can confirm that with the 2025.22 release one feature appears fixed, but it’s a step forward and step backwards so far in this initial beta release
Transcode to unsupported codec kills audio is resolved from my initial testing
Guide data missing is still an issue for future days, no change For some channels, I’m getting really odd jumping/tearing/glitching video and audio
It is a step no question, and that is great to see, let’s hope we see at least resolution of the Live TV feature blocking features (guide data & reliable playback).
I’ve updated the main post to help track where we are at.
