I have moved my Plex media server over onto a Synology DS3617xs back in November and Live TV always crashes after several hours, This happens for all clients so its system wide. The only way to get it working again is to reboot the NAS. I am running DSM 6.1.4-15217 with Plex version 1.11.0.4666. I want to make note that this happens with every Plex version since I installed it. I have the log files and will be happy to PM someone with them once you ask. Please help me solve this problem, I been dealing with it for over a month and my family is ready to shoot me… I did not have this problem when I was running Plex media server on Windows 10.
Do you have some log files I may look at, preferably with DEBUG logging only (NOT Verbose), collected just after it fails?
This is the quickest way for me to drill into what’s happening.
Chuck thank for taking the time to reply, I will PM you the logs I have. Only thing is I can’t create the logs the same time it happens because it does not happen y we are watching Live TV it happens sometime when not in use and we only see the trouble the next time we try and watch Live TV. I hope my logs will tell you something.
If you make certain VERBOSE logging is disabled, that will help.
We can also tell PMS to increase the number of log files if you don’t mind using another 26 MB for logs? (about 10MB total upload when compressed)
If you wish to,
- Stop PMS
- Go to Package Center and install the Synology Text Editor if you’ve not installed it already (it’s really nice)
- Open the Plex share in FileStation (Give yourself R/w permission if you don’t see it then reopen FileStation)
- Navigate down to Library -> Plex Media Server
- Right Click on
Preferences.xml
- Open in Text Editor.
- Right before the closing
/>
insertLogNumFiles="10"
(don’t forget the space between options) - Save and exit
- Start PMS
- Now it will keep 10 log files instead of the default 5
That will give you more time / flexibility to capture
Sure, I just sent you the logs. Please let me know if you need me to increase the number of log files.
Already did. I’m afraid we have to catch this one red-handed.
Please proceed to increase the number of log files. If you’re comfortable with 15
that works for me and the forum as well too
No problem, I will do this tomorrow and send you new logs within 24 hours of crash. It seems to last for several hours then it crashes but I never know when the crash happened.
Chuck I just noticed something when I went in to give myself read/write permission. I think something happen to the Plex user, I remember the custom permission use to be check with everything else unchecked. Now everything was unchecked and the custom permission was grayed out with no option to enable it. We may of just found the problem, The Plex user did not have permission to the Plex share. How do I fix this? I guess what I am asking is how do I recreate the Plex user with the default permissions like it was when created when installing PMS???
Ray,
Did you delete user plex
or just uncheck its permissions in Shared Folders?
If you deleted it, you’ll need to uninstall PMS and reinstall the package. The installer does the rest. (It will rattle the disks too as it corrects things).
If you only removed its permissions, give user plex
R/W permission to the share. That’s all. Everything else is done at the OS level
I did not remove the user but for some reason it did not have permission to the Plex share, I remember it use to have ‘custom permission’ checked but now that is grayed out with no option to check it again. I think something got messed up with it. Would it be better to delete the Plex user and reinstall PMS?
Not to worry. R/W is fine.
Thanks, I will report back later tomorrow if this fixed the problem or not.
Let me know
Hi Chuck, No such luck it crashed again but I think we making headway. This time when I tried to bring up Live TV on my Android phone it said “All Tuners in Use” with options of what I want to do, I killed of 2 recording so I would have a free tuner and when I tried Live TV again it just gave me a simple error that something when wrong. I increased the Logs to 15 so we see what happens. I also still felt like something was wrong with the Plex user so I deleted it, Uninstalled PMS and reinstalled it now everything looks rite with the Plex user as I remember it… I will update you as soon as I have something for you.
Thanks again for your time and fast response
Hi Chuck,
I am happy to report its been two days and Live TV is still working At this point it seems there was a problem with the Plex user account because after uninstalling PMS and delete the Plex user and reinstalling PMS everything seems fine now. I will post back if anything changes…
Thanks for all your help.
