Ok so I solved my issue. It’s no issue really… or is it? Not sure if I should feel stupid here…
When the guide first comes up it’s set on “favorites” (this must be a change?)
I must have favorited some plex streaming channels at some point before I disabled that feature. So all I had to do was scroll over to my server name (or any of the other live tv categories) and my channels are there.
I feel like somehow my roku client has not reverted yet (even after reinstalling), because this was not the way it worked yesterday.
Now I just need to figure out how to remove favorites that don’t exist.
This reminds me greatly of the Pre Uno rollout that sought to combine your libraries across servers. It was a horrible idea then, and it’s a horrible idea now.
I really have no desire to combine these two ecosystems and would like a way to have my regular channel lineup front and center where it used to be, with the Plex stuff in a totally different area.
I pulled out a lot of hair trying to figure out where my regular Live TV went and it took me a bit to figure out what happened. I had no landing screen to explain it all.
Plex, please give me back separation of church and state, or some way to undo this mess? You’ve once again added clicks to what was a simple process for me. I find this really upsetting.
Is this reverted or not? I updated to the latest server version for Ubuntu, ran all updated on my roku, removed and re-setup the DVR stuff on my server and still can NOT get any OTA channels to show up on the roku app. I reset the user home screen settings on the roku app, made sure the LiveTV and DVR option for my server was checked… And still NOTHING!
When checking the LiveTV category under plex it lists all their crap channels which we have no interest in and NONE of our OTA channels. Trying to merge the OTA channels with over the internet channels is just a horrible idea for our setup. We have really slow internet and have no interest in trying to stream any of the stuff plex offers. We have a paid Sling TV account that we use for non OTA watching.
Has anyone found a way to for sure revert this change for the roku app? I’ve tried several users, clearing and resetting the home settings with no change or fix to this issue. Our OTA channels are just completely MIA now
I will note, things appear to be reverted on the web app, and android app, only the roku app for us is broken.
Nope, our server is NOT listed along the top as an option. We have “Hide Guide”, “Plex Channels”, “Entertainment”, “Movies”, etc… No listing/entry for our DVR server .
Another thing to add about this kind of change… It totally breaks the “security” model we have setup here.
Internet bandwidth is a bit of a commodity here, so we do not want our guests to stream any internet channels. We want to give them access to our local library and OTA/DVR channels only. The “old” setup allowed us to hide all of the plex steaming options from the home menu. This “new” way will totally break that model unless they put in some way to hide any of the plex streaming channel options.
*edit. leaving my original comment here, but on further digging I found the proper settings for managed local users to do exactly what I was needing.
The problem with any of the Plex rollouts is that various clients are breaking due to the many different setups each admin has, something Plex testing doesn’t always have. ALL users are blanketed as beta testers and quiet frankly, it’s annoying. It’s one of the most painful things about being an admin and general user of Plex, especially when these new features come with no plan of recourse. I welcome this new DVR+Digital channel inclusive experience but I definitely agree, that mechanisms to turn off permanently or granularly is a must in some cases.
Seems to me the changes I’ve been seeing in the Roku client have been trying to focus attention on their own live TV channels, as opposed to what your own tuner can get off the air or whatever. I wonder if Plex makes money via viewer counts on their own channels?
Totally horked my Roku client as far as live TV goes… But it’s still recording what I had programmed.
On my computer/the web app I went through and unselected everything… Which appeared to only have effected the web app even though it says its for all devices.
I then went into the roku app, selected “Live TV”, pressed * then I was able to personalize and sure enough, there my server was as an option and was not checked. I checked that, and unchecked the plex channels. Now our OTA channels are showing again and only the OTA channels as expected!
Guess I’ll go around to every roku device and get them changed over.
Thanks for the help sixxnet!!
*edit . edit the edit again… figured out my other issue so just removed that comment.
I’d say this is way too premature for Lon to have done. He’s an ambassador for Plex but for him paid or not, to show us all something that’s currently a mess and not entirely rolled out across all clients is disingenuous to the nature of his platform and followers who are going to go straight into their systems and be up in arms trying to see what he sees.
@geosidi Live TV starts in a paused state on Firestick 4k. It will also pause itself when going back to the guide from watching a channel by pressing the up or back button.
@adutchman I also have this problem on my Android devices. It takes clicking back and forth on the guide sources before they start switching reliably.
I’ve not been put off by the new UI, especially now it has dropped with them actually telling me about it. This happened on my Roku at least… not sure it did on the firestick though, it just opened the new guide when I opened Plex.
I like the favourites, that is good… But for some reason I have 1 channel in my EPG that it will not let me add as a favourite, it just does nothing.
