I have a similar issue with Chromecast/ Google TV. I am not sure if it is the same
Plex Media Server v1.20.5.3600-47c0d9038 â Synology
2020 Chromecast google TV Android TVOS 10 PLEX 8.9.2.21619 (613cb8fd)
Samsung Note 8 Android 9 PLEX 8.9.2.21619 (613cb8fd)
Silicondust HDHomeRun CONNECT 4K (HDHR5-4K) No 4K stations in my area yet
EERO PRO MESH wireless Network
On the chromecast google TV- Live-TV, when entering the 4 major network stations (ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX) I can pause and play, but there is no ability to FF (fast-forward) or RW (rewind). The video also barfs after 200 seconds and goes back to the guide. I can simultaneously connect to the same channel through the exact same PLEX app revision using my Note 8 and everything works flawlessly. It is sometimes possible that after continuously changing channels for 30 minutes to an hour (100+ channel changes) I will get an instance where I can FF,RW and the then the video does not fail either. It should be noted that these stations are transcoded on the chromecast google TV and are direct play on my NOTE 8. Even on the once in a hundred opportunity where PLEX on the chromecast google TV works correctly it is still transcoded. Other TV stations around here are lower quality and play-direct and have no problems with RW/FFâŠ.too bad that there is nothing that I am interested in that is broadcast on these other stations.
pathetic WORKAROUND: After choosing a channel, go to the screen that shows the progressbar. If the FF & RW are grayed out, select the HD icon. changing from âConvert Automaticallyâ to âplay original qualityâ even if âplay original qualityâ is originally selected fixes my problems (rr/ff become active and PLEX doesnât barf back to the guide after 200 seconds) . In my case PLEX is broken 99% of the time, so in PLEX settings I set the Video quality to âAdjust Automatically ONâ, this reduces the number of clicks to simply change a channel in the guide from 8 to 7
Probably unrelated, but the log makes it look like the decision to transcode is based on inadequate bandwidth. This looks wrong, 2Tb/s looks a little much even without any compression:
Nov 19, 2020 14:51:25.089 [0x7f99822b3700] DEBUG - [Transcode] Streaming Resource: Reducing playback quality for 190476kbps stream bitrate: video resolution to 1920x1080, audio channels to 6, quality to 99, disable video DS as 2147483647kbps is > the 20736kbps available
I too have similar issues (FireTV 4K Stick / HD HomeRun Connect / QNAP NAS). The symptom is reproducible both on a wired Firestick4K and wireless.
It seams my good experience with livetv a few weeks ago was a one off. I tried the firetv again over the weekend and itâs back to stopping after a couple of minutes. Sometimes it spits you back to the guide, sometimes the app crashes and your back to the amazon homescreen.
Tossing my hat in this ring.
I can concur that fortunately recording works fine. At least for me, none of the solutions offered above have yet resolved being randomly punted back to the guide while watching live TV. This appears to be an issue with the app itself on Firestick.
This is a rather frustrating issue after having bought a HD Homerun Connect Duo specifically for watching live TV via Plex on our Firesticks. I wouldnât mind so much were it not for the fact that the HD Homerun app itself is only marginally less painfull than chewing on broken glass.
Agreed! My experience is identical to yours. Interesting that live tv works flawlessly on my smart tv Plex client and also on my roku Plex client. I concur that this is a fire tv 4k Plex client issue.
I got a new Fire TV Stick 2020 last week. It has this exact same problem:
The 2020 Firestick is the same version of Fire OS as the Firestick 4k so my guess is that is the common issue.
Using HDHomeRun Quadro, latest Plex Server on Windows 10. Neither of these issues happen when using the PC Plex client. Hope they can fix this soon as this was the main reason to get Plex setup here to replace cable when timeshifting the nightly local news.
I keep hoping that we will get some visibility on this in Plex development. This is apparently a completely reproducible problem.
Version 8.2.1 seems to work properly for now.
I just found this thread. I have a very similar thread going below.
I havenât been able to get any response from Plex yet either.
You have exactly the problem that many of us are seeing.
It would be great if someone from Plex could acknowledge if they are working on this issue. I also am having the same problem on a FireTV Stick 4K.
Recently switched from Jellyfin/Kodi to Plex and bought a lifetime pass as I wanted LiveTV. Same issue here with Live TV stopping after a few minutes. Itâs fine on my iOS devices and laptop, the problem is just on my 4k FireTV stick. Iâm using tvhproxy, recordings are fine, itâs just live TV.
This problem is specifically with the Plex client running on the Fire TV 4k. Plex needs to specifically let us users know that they are aware of this problem and to tell us what steps are being taken to resolve it.
Just happened to me to. I kept trying to watch and it kept exiting. I logged in via a browser and the console showed a bunch of seemingly zombie live tv processes. Shortly after that the plex server process became unresponsive and I had to end the process and run it again. Lost what was recording at the time.
The only solution that has worked for me is to set up a Jellyfin server soley for the live tv and DVR functions.
I hate running two servers, but live TV simply doesnât work on the Firestick 4k.
We absolutely need Plex to work on this! Itâs incredibly frustrating as I bought a HDHomeRun just because of its advertised Plex integration. The Fire TV app is inconsistent. Sometimes ill get a stream for three minutes and it will crash out to the main Plex screen and other times I can get a solid stream for over 40 minutes. Sometimes the stream shows up in the dashboard other times it shows no active streams when I have them running. This seems to be a Plex issue. Sometimes I also can access my favorite channels by pressing the down navigation button, other times it locks up and wonât show anything.
Plex please respond to this thread!!
I have two Fire TV 4k sticks. My Plex runs on a sizable QNAP NAS. Everything plays back perfectly from that server with the exception of live TV. If I use a Roku Plex client, live TV works perfectly. Live TV even records perfectly. Live TV just does not play back âliveâ for over 5 minutes without exiting back to the guide as long as my player of choice is Plex on the Fire TV 4k stick.
Does anyone from Plex ever monitor these forums???
So, for whatever reason, I cannot seem to post in any other part of this forum. In any case, I have another interesting Fire TV Stick Plex issue. Has anyone seem that when your Internet connection is out, your Fire TV stick insists your Wifi is out, when really there is nothing wrong with your wifi.
When this happens, the Fire TV stick forces you to the network page. Ideally, even though my Internet might be out, I would like to use my Plex client on my Fire Tv 4k stick and I cannot because the Fire TV stick forces me to the wifi page saying my network is offline. My Plex server is on my local network and I can connect to it from a Roku, just not the Fire TV.
I have been having this issue with multiple fire TV 2020 and 4k devices since early november. I have to use hdhomeruns own app to watch live TV now. Kinda peeves me off how it broke a couple of days after I bought lifetime, and there have been no responses from plex on any of the threads.
