I’ve been running Plex Media Server on Synology for years now and I stream my antenna reception through it to the Apple TV app. Whilst it works there are a few short coming that haven’t been corrected over this time and I’ll list them here (I’m sure the’ve been discussed in the past).

The scrubber has no thumbnails! Like none, zip, nada. I’ve read some forum post that its to do with the playback engine on their tv app and the format of the video. Really? Surely you can build a thumbnail table with a 40x40 frame even 5 seconds or so?

Scrubbing manually doesn’t work a lot of the times. Something just moving the playhead back to a an earlier point, make it jump back to the original position. So annoying.

Trying to scrub during a recording sessions is just broken. Numerous times I’ve recorded a live show where I started to watch is say 10min after its started, Moving the playhead to some point between the start and the current live position is simply a no go. It usually jumps back to the start!
Don’t get me wrong, I really like the Plex system overall and all of the new fangled features are fine and all, I guess, but the reality is you really need to get the fundamentals right and the scrubbing experience using the Apple TV app, is really below par. It almost enough to drive me back to my Tivo box, if I had enough funds to replace the broken disk in it.
