My family has moved to use Plex + HDHomeRun Quadro to watch our broadcast television. We have noticed that in about 2 hours (or about 2 shows from the start of the first show) that the stream will buffer 1 or 2 times before stopping with an error. The error I believe is that the signal is weak or dropped.
What is interesting to me is that the error message displays the show image of the show we tuned in on. I wonder if this is a bug with playback of that timeslot and not moving to the next show seamlessly when the first show timeslot ends.
I let Live TV play in the background for several hours without issue. The next time it happens grab the logs to confirm what is happening. Logs should be set to Debug On, Verbose Off. Easiest way is use a browser and go to https://app.plex.tv/desktop Server >Settings>Troubleshooting>Download Logs, paste them in a reply.
Do you know which version you are using? Plex Guide or XML? Things to consider:
It’s a bug that’s been reported numerous times and happens on many platforms. The LiveTV/DVR platform isn’t ready for prime time. Look around and you’ll see numerous threads that are 18 months old without the basic issues being addressed. Plus you’ll see there are guide data issues.
I see this same issue using Hauppauge quad PCI tuners. It’s worse in some releases and better in others. I’ve got a single antenna feed in my test room that splits to a TV, an EMBY server with the same tuner card, a Tablo, and a PLEX server. When this happens there are ZERO issues with the signal on any of the other platforms It’s PLEX.
I too think it has to do with how they move on to the next show as well as how they simultaneously write to and read from a recording buffer. I’ll see frequent lockups on the 1/2 hour in the middle of a show being watched on a regular basis, whether being recorded or not and I don’t watch a lot of TV via PLEX anymore so I’m assuming it’s a frequent event.
