Except not all of us are having issues. I do not have any issues playing live TV through a web browser or Chromecast/Chromecast with Google TV.
Try this as a test. Under settings, network, enable “Treat WAN IP As LAN Bandwidth”. If this fixes the stuttering, you have DNS rebinding protection issue with your router.
The setting is already enabled. Presumably that’s the default as I reinstalled the Plex server not too long ago. DNS is a local IP as it’s relayed by my broadband router. Live TV playback is fine if I use the full Android Plex app on my phone or tablet. Can I check if there’s anything different with our setups? I noticed that lots of people on this thread are using HDHomeRun hardware. Mine is:
Plex Server (latest update) Running on Shield TV 2019 (Gigabit LAN connection)
HDHomeRun Quatro
I am using a HDHomeRun Extend with firmware version 20200907. PMS running on Windows Server 2016 Essentials, Gigabit network, Chromecast with Google TV on Ethernet (using the optional power adapter).
Just got the new Google TV, and I’m having audio stuttering with live TV as well. Other videos work fine. Very annoying as I watch a lot of live TV, and it worked great with my Roku. I hope this is fixed soon.
After about 10 minutes of testing multiple live channels, my audio stuttering is now gone. Not sure if it was the Google update that installed, or the Plex media server update, but seems good now.
Got the Google update last night and since have not seen any stuttering like before. The only thing I’ve noticed is that the video will pause and audio will keep going but then when the video starts playing they are in sync. This only seems to happen when starting a live channel. Its a big improvement from what it was doing.
I’m having the same issue with my new Google Chromecast with google tv where live tv just stops playing after about 5 minutes. Everything is up to date in plex and the Chromecast. Nothing has made a difference in the settings I’ve tried tweaking. Everything is running on the same LAN. Other devices, ipad, Android phone, web browser, roku all work fine. Only the Chromecast stops after about 5 minutes.
My Chromecast is on the same build and plex is on 1.21.0.3711
The exact thing I see is that a few minutes into a live show, it just exits back to the plex dashboard. Meanwhile, if I go back to the Google tv home and then go all the way right to show my account, there is a small box showing that plex is actively playing the show.
Like right now, I’m watching an NFL game on my iPad because plex won’t keep it playing on the TV.
Has this been addressed? LiveTV using HDHomerun Prime on the new Chromecast with Google TV (via WiFi or ethernet) within 5 minutes appears to enter an on/off buffer state rendering watching tv via the Plex app useless. Using the HDHomerun Prime native app will play live tv without any issue.
Also having problems. just bought a new Google chromecast with Google TV. Connect to my local plex and every high quality video stutters and stalls. If I set it to transcode at 4mbps it will play so this much be wimpy hardware in the chromecast?
Anyone else still having Live TV issues? I got the power thernet adapters for two chromecast with Google TV.
Live TV works absolutely fine on other Plex clients like Apple TV and Android TV, iPadOS on my network.
Disappointing. At the moment I’ve got the family members using the HD Homerun Android TV app which works fine compared to Live TV on Plex on the Chromecast with Google TV.
I am have been having the same problem. Live TV starts stuttering and eventually stops after a few minutes. This happens on both of my Chromcast with GoogleTV, my Nvidia Shield and Android apps on Chromebook and Samsung S10 phone.
This is extremely frustrating. The Shield and Android apps used to work very well both in the house and remotely.
I’ve been turning setting off 1 by one and checking other settings to find something that makes any difference. Thus far nothing has made any change, after 5-10 mins of a live stream I get stuttering.
I did just notice a spike in bandwidth when the stuttering starts to happen. stop the live stream and then restart and the bandwidth goes back down.
I’m running this stream at 8Mbps inside my network. Everything is up to date, and before you ask… My internal network is slightly stacked. I run enterprise grade router and AP, because its what I do.
Here is the bandwidth after restarting the live stream.
