Hello. Have an interesting issue that I am not sure where to look for an answer. I have ripped a whole TV series from DVD into .mp4 files and moved these files to my TrueNAS Scale server running Plex Service App version 1.41.6.9685. An anomaly is occurring when I play some of the video files through the Plex portal on either a Roku streaming device or through a web browser. When there is a scene where the camera pans in the show, the image on the screen can either show horizontal banding on some frames, or the image jitters during the pan. When the image is focused on a specific action scene, the playback is fine. It only happens when the show pans. And worse off, it doesn’t happen on all shows. And I do not see this when playing movies. And when I play the same .mp4 files outside of Plex through a Windows video player, the banding and panning jitter do not appear as they do when playing the same videos through the Plex app. Has anyone experienced this that can pass along some guidance on why I see this through the Plex application?
If it looks like this, it’s an interlacing artifact. I think the best thing to do is rip the media in such a way that the final video file is deinterlaced. Then, you do not need to rely on the viewer or display handle it, which doesn’t always work well.
