Localized titles are ignored for some movies

What I mean in action:

It works as intended for around 65% of the movies I have, that is it displays Japanese titles and Japanese descriptions. But for the remaining movies they all match to English and no matter what I do it doesn’t change to Japanese (even though the actual Japanese title is shown in the matching window (see gif)).

You might think this is the case because the metadata for that language isn’t available but that is not the case. All of these are Japanese movies and the Japanese metadata is available BOTH in IMDB and TMDB.

Here’s an example:
Movie: The Incident (1978)
Original (Japanese) title: 事件
IMDB: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0202932/releaseinfo?ref_=tt_dt_dt#akas
TMDB: https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/160268

My library settings:

Server Version#: 1.19.3.2764-ef515a800
Player Version#: 1.10.0.1208-daa6b641

Are the troublesome files mp4? If so it’s the Metadata in those files causing you headaches.

Try Moving in Plex agents, enabled Local assets to the both of stack.

All files are properly remuxed MKVs. Absolutely no mp4 present in this library.

Here is a list of movies affected by this:

Are you using the Original names of these Titles, found top of page with IMDb

You mean as file name?

If I use the romanized name when matching it only matches to the English name just like before.

In the Titles general details/ (pencil / Edit) Original title

Maybe: Boku tachi to chûzai san no 700 nichi sensô

You’re asking me to manually rename the original title to its romanized version? I’ve tried that and of course it actually changes the title but only to whatever you enter in there.

So I would have to manually enter the Japanese title for every single movie plex fails to localize.

Besides it doesn’t change any matching issue since the description is still in English.

Here is what a properly matched movie looks like:

Please copy the content of the guid="... property from the Plex media info XML of an affected movie. https://support.plex.tv/articles/201998867-investigate-media-information-and-formats/

This?

guid=“com.plexapp.agents.imdb://tt1155630?lang=ja”

Yes, that is the info I was looking for.
It tells us at least that the movie is matched with the Plex Movie agent, using the Japanese language.
However, I think there is something wrong with the metadata source. I cannot see proper japanese or korean titles for this movie on the IMDb page either:

I mistakenly linked a movie without IMDB Japanese title but I still don’t understand why it would properly show the Japanese title within the edit screen and the match screen but not in the library.

Here’s a guid with a movie that actually has the Japanese title on IMDB: guid=“com.plexapp.agents.imdb://tt0202932?lang=ja”

The Fix Match dialog shows you the “Original Title”.
If you’d want to use that, you’d have to disable “Localized Titles”.

If I disable localization it matches all my movies in english.

It’s a japanese movie only library.

Please give our new movie scanner/matcher a try in New Plex Media Server movie scanner and agent preview and report any issues in that thread
