Locked out again... it's Plex

This happens every time I update Plex. This time, it doesn’t matter what I do, I can’t reconnect.

This is not a plug or anything else. It was working before the update. I’m running the latest versions of everything. Every other computer on my network (there are three) can see the NAS. Every other computer can see the video files. I have accessed the NAS through the Asustor ADM app and through. Windows Explorer. The only thing that can’t see the NAS is Plex.

This is a Plex problem. It’s always been a Plex problem. Every time I update, the connection gets broken. I log out and log back in again. Usually this works. No dice this time. I reboot everything. Still no go.

It’s Plex.

I’ve been to the web portal and the Account page and I can see the name of my NAS I’ve tried the ‘Try again’ button. No go.

Any help appreciated because pretty soon I’m going to dump this from my network.

When I hit the ‘Try again’ button, I get the following:

The server “XXXxxxxxxxxxx” is unreachable. Make sure it’s running, double check your network, and try again.”

I can find no way of navigating to it to re-establish it.

Can you access the NAS by the IP of the server?

http://[server ip address]:32400/web

I was just trying that.

No.

But I didn’t have to do this before. It’s only since the update.

Can I use the ‘Forget this server’ button and navigate back to it?

When you try and access it by the ip or through the Asustor control center what screen does it take you to?

If I go through the File Explorer in ADM it’s no problem. If I click on the Plex Media Server button the web page tells me it can’t connect.

If I try ‘http://[server ip address]:32400/web’ in a web browser it doesn’t connect (using my proper IP address, of course).

Sorry, I’d better clarify that a bit better: the ADM home page has both a File Explorer button and a Plex Media Server button on it. There’s also an Access Control button and as far as I know I’ve got permission for Plex to access the folders it needs.

Thanks for your interest.

What browser are you using?

I have an Asustor NAS but I’ve never had this problem so I’m having a hard time visualizing what you’re seeing or if there’s some kind of error 404 type message in the browser

What screen do you directed to? Something like this?

Screenshots always help

Using both Opera and Google Chrome:

Opera:

192.168.0.178 refused to connect.

Try:

*** Checking the connection**
*** Checking the proxy and the firewall**

ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED

Chrome:

This site can’t be reached

192.168.0.178 refused to connect.

Try:

*** Checking the connection**
*** Checking the proxy and the firewall**

ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED

This is from the Asustor ADM page:

Can you confirm that your Asustor ADM System Information page looks something like this?

I’m sure I have the IP address right.

Those settings look ok

Have you tried to reboot the router and NAS, or clear your browser cache

The default settings in the Asustor firewall shouldn’t be blocking you but I would check anyway. After so many failed attempts it may add that ip to a blocked list

I’m leaning more towards this being a router issue than Asustor problem.

If you roll back to the previous version you were using does the problem go away?

I have tried all those.

Asustor Defender had one blocked address in it but when I checked it with Plex it still wasn’t working.

I logged out and logged back in again but no good.

I didn’t know how to roll back the Plex app in the Asustor so I simply reinstalled it, just in case. No good.

Is there a repository for older versions of Plex for Asustor?

Sorry, I neglected to add one more thing: I’m currently locked out of my router and can’t reopen it for another couple of days as I’m migrating a hell of a lot of data across my network at the moment.

I’ve also forgotten my username and password so I’ll need to hard-reset it.

Okay, I’ve hard reset my router but I’m not seeing anything.

These are the only options Plex is giving me:

Everything else works. I’m trialing Emby at the moment with no problems.

I have looked into my router’s software and can’t see that port 32400 is open anywhere.

I have a TP-Link Archer AX50 router and the software is the same as in this rather useful video:

I can see my NAS listed in the DHCP table but the Virtual servers page has no open port for 32400.

I presume that if I use the same process and put 32400 in the ‘Internal Port’ box and set the Protocol to ‘TCP’, that should work?

This article was helpful:

Again, any help appreciated.

I still don’t know why the Plex update suddenly stopped working. I’ve tested the port on the browser with the firewall off and even then, it doesn’t work.

If you cannot see/access your home network (WAN IP) using the port you specified in your port forward…
Does the WAN IP of your router match the public IP displayed in your Plex Media Server’s remote access settings and the one showing on canyouseeme.org?
Also… can you confirm this is actually a publicly routable IPv4 address?

If the answers to these questions are „yes“, you might want to contact your ISP to ask them if they’re blocking that communication and if they’re able/willing to unblock it.

Thanks for your reply.

I tried canyouseeme but it couldn’t.

The instructions you gave me are a bit above my pay grade but I’ll read them again slowly and see what I can make of it.
