Lost access to PMS in settings

Server Version#: 1.22.0.4163
Player Version#: 8.14.1.23548

I will update the version when I get in but it’s the latest of both.

I had an issue a few days ago where the section for PMS in the settings was blank so I figured it needed to update. There was an update so I installed and checked still not showing. Cleared the cache of Plex and the Server app, still not showing.

Uninstalled and reinstalled both as the server wasn’t working and restarting the Shield didn’t kick it into action (happened before but I usually keep trying to start the server until it works). Server was working fine but the option in Plex is still missing.

Is this a known issue? Are there any fixes?

Also to add network logging doesn’t work, I’ve used it before but now it gives an IP address that doesn’t work

If you cannot access the server details this implies the server might not be linked to your account.
Do you get to see the settings/content of your server if you open Plex Web via the Shield’s local IP address?

This just happened to me tonight. The server start option was there just yesterday. And I can’t reach the server admin page as the server appears down as well. I just now tried clearing the cache for the client and PMS. I also tried signing out and back in, but nothing seems to help. Hoping to see a fix before I try going nuclear and wiping the data / reinstalling.

Plex works fine, locally and remotely but I don’t have an option to manage it from the Shield so if it goes down I can’t restart it.

Regardless of if it’s linked or not the PMS section in the settings has always had options, for example I can’t manage the storage location of the server itself iirc it’s in that section.

Hey man, I’ve been having the same issues and sadly I deleted everything and started from scratch but I’ve found the solution.

Solution:

The problem is the plex app, not the server.
Uninstall the Plex APP UPDATES and downgrade it to the basic version. Then sign in and go in to settings and you’ll find your server offline there, turn it back online and upgrade the app. don’t touch the PMS app other than to delete your cache

edit: If your server is online, it’ll go offline with the downgrade just turn it back on and upgrade the plex app and it’ll be visible again

I’ve uninstalled the app, reinstalled the app, downgraded the server, reinstalled the server, cleared caches, cleared data but it still doesn’t show in the options the row is blank with just a header

did you downgrade the app to the factory version and then open it like I said in my post? don’t uninstall the app just uninstall the updates for the PLEX app and leave the PMS app updated and as is

I have a 2019 Pro. It looks like the Player app is not a proper “system” app baked into the firmware. There is only an “uninstall” option, which completely removed the app. Opening PMS directed me to download the player app from the play store.

There wasn’t a “uninstall updates” option like there is for other system apps.

I got it working by installing an older version from apkmirror through adb. Unfortunately, I’ll have to have play store auto updates turned off until this is fixed in a future version of the app.

The latest non-beta version that works for me is 8.13.2.23227.

Message me directly if you need more info.

thanks, I figured there was an update I didn’t see I’ll give that a try but hopefully the Devs will respond that they are at least aware of the issue

Just to confirm for anyone else with this issue, the above solution fixes it. Updating again to the newer version makes the section detail disappear again. I used the arm64 version

Chiming in only to let the devs know I have the same exact issue after upgrading to PMS 1.22.1.4228. It seems every PMS upgrade on shield breaks something new …

I’m starting to dislike Plex and their unresponsive staff.

The latest released version of the Plex android client, v8.15.0.23855, is still broken. This version is dated 3/29 on APKMirror. This was tested with PMS v1.22.0.4163 (3/12) and v1.22.1.4228 (3/24)

Plex client v8.13.2.23227 (3/3) is still the last version that does not have this bug and seems to work fine with PMS v1.22.1.4228 (3/24)

I think its clear from the dozens of posts from users that this whole Plex system is now f%$ed. Whether on a Sheild TV or Windows or Mac or other, Plex just fails and fails. These last few weeks is just the pinnacle of their stupidity. They don’t know what they are doing and probably never will catch up to all their self made problems. I had Plexpass for a year or two - but its just another gimmick that adds no extra over the usual issues. Anyone have an alternative to Plex? because these guys are never going to get it fixed…

Plex system is now f%$ed.

That has been my impression too. For months now it’s been downhill, escalating with last week’s multiple releases which fix each other’s regressions.

There are UX issues, there are Software issues … It seems like there was a shakeup in the company and the senior staff has left or given up (maybe to the 2-3 other XBMC-based Media Server companies).

They recently release some Atari games for Win & Mac servers. Earlier last year they released “Watch Together”. It might be that the focus has shifted to new features to bring in revenue and everything else got sidelined.

I hope Plex get their act together, maybe remove support for some devices (probably difficult due to contracts with some hardware providers - like nVidia) and start having a decent service again. Or they close up shop.

Until then, I’m using Kodi. PMS and Plex Player haven’t worked in a week.

This bug appears fixed for me with the latest beta, 8.16.0.24021. I’m seeing the Plex Media Server Section icons, and the server status stops and starts as expected.

Urgggggh, I can attest to the fact this is still an issue!

I stopped my PMS as I needed to unplug my SSD when sorting out some other stuff on my Shield and when I powered it back again my PMS is offline and there is no way to access the settings!

I have tried clearing the cache, uninstalling and re-installing the Plex player and multiple re-boots but all to no avail.

Am I right in understanding that side loading an old version of Plex is the recommended solution here?

@thingfromspace Thank you for saving me a days work having to set my PMS up again from scratch.

Your suggestion of using sideloading Plex client v8.13.2.23227 had me back up and running in a few minutes. I then upgraded to the latest client 8.17.0.24742 (dated 28/04/21) and everything was as good as new.

Phew!

@CraftyClown When you went through your steps of sideloading Plex client v8.13.2.23227 and the Server options were back up and listed, did it show your server as Stopped…even though the server was running just fine and the client was even accessing the content on the server?

The reason I ask is because I did as you suggested but mine shows as Stopped even though it is running… I’m concerned if I select to start the server even though it is already running it will create a new instance of PMS overwriting all my current PMS data.

No, mine definitely shows as running. I’d be surprised if it was even possible for the Shield to have two instances of PMS running though, so I reckon you’re alright.

Did you try rebooting the machine to see if it still says stopped?

Yes, I rebooted as well just to be sure. My concern isn’t that it will create two instances but it will overwrite my existing library with a new one since it doesn’t seem to think it exists even though it is running. It is very odd… I think I need to just roll the dice…and come to terms with the fact I may be rebuilding my entire library… :grimacing:
