Hi, first I apologize for submitting a question that’s been asked several times, but the answer to my dilemma isn’t clearly stated in the answers.
I recently installed Windows 10 on the same computer I had Windows 7. Of course, I had to reinstall Plex, but when I attempt to connect it says server is unreachable. Of course, none of my libraries are listed. My library was no more than 2000 entries and can be accomplished in minutes if I need to redo them, but why can’t I reach my server?
Thanks for any help you may offer. I’m usually quite technical, but this one has me pulling my grand kids hair out!!
As this is a new install, did you connect to the server locally first and login/claim it? On the PC where you installed Plex Media Server, open your favorite browser and navigate to: http://127.0.0.1:32400/web
It will likely ask you to sign in; if so, do it. You can then “claim” the server by navigating to Settings -> General.
You can then set up your libraries. Or, if you followed the procedure to move an install to a new system, you can proceed with that.
HI and thank you. I get “this site can’t be reached,” 127.0.0.1 refused to connect" when navigating to the link. I went as far as turning off my firewall not just adding the address. I had to walk away from this last night I was so frustrated. It took no more than 5 minutes to get Plex up and running on the first install and experiencing this is nuts. I appreciate your help very much.
Are you attempting this on the same PC as the Plex Media Server? Can you verify that the Plex Media Server icon is present in the Windows 10 notification area by the clock:
Right-click on it and select “Open Plex” and see if that works. If not, open an Edge InPrivate window and type in the address in my earlier post, please.
Also, you didn’t mention which version of PMS you’d installed. There was a beta release earlier in the week which had some installation problems. I’d recommend you verify you’re on either the latest public release (1.18.3.2156) or beta version (1.18.4.2164).
Wow, Phil, now I am losing it. My server is now connected, but I have two instances of my network in the left panel with the same network name. One which is connected and does indicate I have Plex pass and the other which continues to try and connect. Why there are two is beyond my comprehension of where the second one came from. Of course my libraries are empty, but that’s not a problem as it will only take a few minutes to rescan what I originally offered. How do I go about about removing the “cloned” server? I’m sure I’ll find the answer to that easily, but I don’t want to risk something else going haywire. BTW, after several installs and uninstalls of PMS, I did notice the icon wasn’t in the notification area until today’s install. Weird stuff happening here. Thanks for all your help, it’s really appreciated.
Ah, progress. The duplicate is probably your account remembering the old server. If you gave them the same “friendly” name it would look like a duplicate. You should be able to remove it by going to settings and selecting it from the server drop-down on the left (make sure to select the one which is “Unavailable”):
You can then click “Remove Server” to permanently remove it:
After doing so, it should be removed from your server list. One final thing you may need to do is reset your web client preferences from Settings -> (Plex Web) General -> Reset Customization. That will take you through the client setup again.
All is running as smoothly as first installed. I really was pulling my hair out as it seemed to be such a simple oversight on my part. I installed and uninstalled 3 times and the third time it tooK and was also the time when a duplicate server was created. I really appreciate your help in this.
