Lots of channels in the guide listed as 'To be announced'

Server Version#: 1.13.8.5388
Player Version#: N/A

In recent updates to the server I have seen a marked increase in the number of channels in the guide for live TV (locally on the web interface of the server) that just return ‘To be announced’ where actual programmes should appear. This has a knock on effect as the programmes on those channels that I am scheduled to record do not appear in the recordings view as they would have done historically. I live in the UK and the problem is particuarly apparent for the BBC channels (though it does affect others too):-

This could be a listing provider problem as the schedule seems to update overnight to show the correct information but only for the next 24 hour period. That is to say that whenever I reference the BBC channels, they show the correct programmes until 02:00 the next morning but then nothing after that. I am just wanting to see if others are experiencing this and/or whether it might be something within my setup that I can change to correct.

Thanks in advance for any help that can be provided.

I have the same issue. I did a manual update last Friday but the guide is not being auto-updated since for some channels. I have “To be announced” for next Saturday onwards for some channels - namely the BBC channels and Channel 4. ITV channels and Channel 5 do seem to have updated.

Yeah, I’m seeing the same issue as well. Some channels’ data cuts off around midnight tonight. For me BBC and ITV channels have no data, while Channel 4 and 5 have data.

A manual guide refresh from Settings > Live TV & DVR seems to have restored the missing entries for the next week.

I’m still having this problem. It’s a pain having to manually refresh the guide and it misses recording slots for the series record option. Please address a fix for this.

I agree that the manual update only works as a short term fix and then left alone will not update properly within days. I have taken to setting a reminder for myself once a week to do a manual refresh of the guide. Would be great to get this fixed and have the guide update correctly during maintenance (as it always used to).

I’m having the same issue here, looking just one day ahead on BBC channels and C4, both HD & SD. Even a manual guide refresh doesn’t fix the problem. I also tried rebooting the plex docker image but that also made no difference.

Is there anything else to try?

I have the same issue. It started a few months back. I have to manually refresh the program guide every few days to make sure I don’t miss recordings.

I also have a similar problem. Whenever the guide automatically updates, it updates to about 1 am the next morning. After that, only two channels have data and the rest say “Unknown Airing”. A manual guide update will update the entire week. However, the next automatic update will delete all data past 1 am the next morning, except for the two channels. Is there a fix for this problem, short of manually updating each day after the automatic update has done its deletion? Plex server on Windows 10.

I too am having exactly the same problem - BBC and Channel 4 will just not show anything beyond the current day. As with other posters, manually updating will resolve this, but if it can be done manually, why doesn’t the automatic update take care of this?

like [twangi], I have to manually do an update, then all the to be announced slowly disappear.

normally the same day is ok, anything in the future will often half be to be announced. Some channels are worse than others.

this has been happening since sometime last year.

is there a manual command / exe to run to update the guide.
Then i can ignore the “Perform refresh of program guide data.” during the scheduled tasks.

this makes it a real pain to search for things to record. It seems many people are having the same issue.

This is driving me nuts as well, i wish there was a way i could do a scheduled task to refresh the guide every day at 1-2am or something because i only get 24hrs of guide for some of the channels, the other channels get 7 days easily.

this is a pretty big issue in my opinion and is stopping me getting the best out of plex.

Same problem here, manual refresh is required, automatic updates don’t seem to take place

Ditto the same problem; “To be announced” for many channels and the number of days with programs gets shorter and shorter until their are just 24 hours without a manual refresh of the guide. This has been going on for months now. Running current PMS 1.15.1.710 in the UK. Also my Mum is running the same version and has the same issue (different UK location).

We both have to do a manual Refresh of Guide data. The DVR is fairly useless without a reliable guide, and I am fed up of the GBH of the ear when my Mum calls me up to say it isn’t working again! No to mention it never records the second episode of Coronation Street any evening which also annoys her  My Mum and I both purchased Plex Pass Lifetime and purchased it purely for DVR, which is currently wasted money until the guide is fixed. When will this issue be fixed please?

Original Poster here to confirm that the problem is still ongoing for me also and that regular manual refreshes are required to keep the system functional as a DVR. Given the the numbers in this and related threads, this is obviously not affecting everyone, there is clearly enough evidence of a consistent on ongoing problem that is affecting a growing number of subscribers to warrant some kind of Plex response.

Being only a sporadic user of this forum, are there certain triggers that garner a response from Plex devs on any particular issue (i.e. number of responses in one or related threads)? I ask as my biggest frustration here is not so much the problem itself, but more that I suspect the solution would fairly straightforward identify and implement if given any attention.

Current issues are service related:

https://status.plex.tv/

I agree with jibidibo, if plex just made it update the guide during the nightly maintenance, the bug would be sorted (bodged) until fully fixed.

The service status has status of March, this has been going on for months/year(s). So just been acknowledged?

Not sure provider issue anyway, as a refresh in plex dvr setting compleltly sorts it!

I managed to get Plex to load a xmltv file into Windows 10. The search features, movies, sports etc don’t work but I have a 14 day guide with all 27 of my local OTA channels in it and the DVR is working fine

There is a maintenance task called:
“Perform refresh of program guide data.”

So tick it on and it will do it every night (on the schedule you’ve set)

5stringdeath: I have the same issue. I already have that option turned on - that is what is essentially causing the issue as its filling out the schedule with “To be announced” items each day it runs. A full manual “Refresh Guide” works though.
