Hi I have two 64 bit Win. 10 Servers. Both are up to date with server software.
Both have been set up for the port forwarding to 32400 port on the router.
Yesterday both were visible to each other and were accessible from outside the network. Today half the time they can’t see each other, or only one is visible to both. One can no longer be accessed directly. Restarting the machines makes no difference. Both machines are accessible to remote desktop over the ethernet.
Do I have to reinstall the server to resolve this? If so will I have to re-create all my libraries?
You cant portforward 32400 to both servers try changing one to 32401. Your router is probly having a meltdown trying to workout where to send the trafic.
@nickdunc I take it that DO NOT MEAN that you have your router trying to map the External port of 32400 to two different internal servers?
Try this:
Server 1 (at 192.168.1.111 for example), set your router to map external port 32400 to 192.168.1.111:32400.
Server 2 (at 192.168.1.222 for example) set your router to map external port 32401 to 192.168.1.222:32400
ALSO, on Server 2, set the following:
Settings | Server | Remote Access

Hi,
Yes in fact I had done this. I had not realised how it was working, I thought as both servers were visible simultaneously in the Plex interface they would use the same port forwarding.
I’ll try your proposed solution.
Thanks
Hi, I think I have followed your instructions carefully, but without success.
I have set up the port forwarding using the following ‘applications’ each named server 1 and server 2 respectively:
Server 1: Ext: 32400 - 32400, Int: 32400 - 32400, TCP/UDP
Server 2: Ext: 32401 - 32401, Int: 32400 - 32400, TCP/UDP
Each server was pointed at the appropriate external port
I am not able to assign different port forwarding rules to machines on the home network (i.e. if I turn one off for one machine it is turned off for the other), so I had to leave both selected.
One of these servers is more important to be accessible from outside so I deleted server two and made the server inaccessible to the internet. The server one is still not accessible directly.
I have made Plex server an allowed application on the firewall, so I doubt this is the problem
I should finally add that the server sometime flashes green before displaying red.
Ideas much appreciated, as I’d like to solve the problem and have both accessible externally.
I should add that I cannot assign the internal ip address of the server in the routing app description.
In the forwarding rule I am required to identify an internal host. This is from a list of machines connected to the home network. I select the machine hosting the server in question.
So I have Rule: Server 1, App: Server 1 associated with host: Server 1, Plex server on server 1 pointing at the external port in the app server 1 (32400).
Have you set the Manually Specify Port setting in the server settings? See the Remote Access article.
Even if you have the port forward set up correctly, if you do not set this properly it will not function as it will continue trying to use uPnP to open a port. You would set this to the value you have set for the port externally. Server 1 = 32400, Server 2 = 32401.
Hi,
Yes, each server is set to the port in question. This is what I meant by ‘Plex server on server 1 pointing at the external port in the app server 1 (32400)’ The app being the rule on the router.

Looking at my screen image in my prior post, what Plex Ninja adamskoog is getting at is to enter 32400 into that box on your Server 1. Don’t trust the default to always work.
HI,
but that is what I have done…
HI, perhaps this is clearer.

I have to punt on this one then. By what you have shown, it should work according to my knowledge. Just verify for our sanity that you have not mixed-up camsounds and camflix, please. Hopefully @adamskoog can come back to this and assist further.
That is not corect the external port for the port forward rule for server 2 should be 32401. If you open a browser outside your network and connect back to your external address on port 32400 you will connect to server 1 and if the port is changed to 32401 you will get server2. The way its described above functionality will depend on router firmware it may round robin between both servers or it may take server1 while its on then fail to server 2 when server 1 is off. This is how my system is setup and it works fine.
Hi,
I think it is fact already set up as you describe.
I have since tried the following:
i) making both internal and external ports ranges
ii)deleting one and turning off internet access
iii) enabling connection without a manually defined port.
iv) I deleted and reinstalled both servers.
Nothing works. Bizarrely with no specified port it flashes green before returning to red.
Anyone else go the patience to offer some new ideas, I’m really drawing a blank here.
Nick this is one of those things that’s probably easier “hands on”. If you are in the US and can install TeamView on one of your machines inside your network send me a PM. I’ll send you over my phone number and we can do it together while on the phone.
I’m betting it’s either a simple setting you have wrong or your router doesn’t handle this correct. Either way I can help you figure it out pretty quickly.

I have sorted it out.
What actually had happened is that I had mistakenly assigned a friendly name of my server to the wrong device on my router - so making a port forward rule that was correct but applied it to the wrong machine.
I checked using ipconfig and then checking against the server page in Plex, and then finally realising where it problem must be through a process of elimination.
A stupid mistake, but perhaps this will help someone avoid making it next time.
Sorry to those who spent time giving advice!
Glad you got it figured out.
