Making Plex analyze the metadata only (video game music)

Hello,

It has been an absolute nightmare setting up Plex for my video game music. I manually edit the metadata for all of my media files with Mp3Tag (most notably, “Artist” being the video game franchise and “Album” being the video game title), but Plex still occasionally misses details or refuses to update things like track and album numbers (sometimes even album titles) as I make changes. I have to cut the folder somewhere else on my computer, refresh, re-paste it, refresh again… But sometimes Plex still sees the old folder/songs even though they are gone.

I actually had to recreate my game music library because I had mistakenly created the original one under Plex Premium, and no matter how many agents I disabled, Plex still disregarded my metadata and fetched random information online. The real “fun” has been to recreate all of my game poster and background images :frowning: )

I suppose my question in all of this would be: aside from disabling agents and prioritizing Local Media Assets, is there any other way I can ensure Plex will reliably and exclusively use the embedded metadata for said library? (I’ve tried “Analyse”, which did not do anything, and “Refresh All” was a disaster as Plex went online to fetch random album information.)

Thanks

Did you remember to use the embedded tags settings when creating the library?

Hi Peter, sure did!

Hm. Well, that is the tool available - sorry to say. You might post logs when stuff goes bonkers and we’ll ping @sandman4sure - he might know more.

When you use Plex Premium Music or Last.fm agent, Plex will try to find stuff online.
If you don’t want that, can you maybe use Personal Media Artist and Personal Media Albums?
