I have setup a managed account for my daughter, and every time she watches something it has subtitles on by default.
I cant find anyway to disable them like the rest of the profiles
any ideas how i can do that?
Should be exactly the same as for other users in the audio & subtitle preferences of her account settings (while signed i. With her account)
You’re not in her account settings, are you?
Yes i am, chose her profile then went to settings
You should instead click on the avatar, and select account
@dane22 mine is already set that way
Try and remove the checkmark for “Automatically select…”
Hmmm…I actually just went through this, and can concur that the Web Client have issues here
So this is what I did
In the Web Client, I set the prefs like this:
But sadly, even after logout of the managed account, it didn’t stick, so I also did the following:
Downloaded Plex for Windows
Ref: Media Server Downloads | Plex Media Server for Windows, Mac, Linux, FreeBSD and More
Using that, I logged in as my managed user, and now the settings was respected, even in the Web Client
hmm i will try on my firetv app and see aswell
so is this a bug i should log?
Nope, digging further myself, cuz could also be as simple as some browser caching
If really a bug, I’ll log it ![]()
Please let me know if it is a bug, as i dont use windows only linux so dont have the desktop app ![]()
I think once you watch / start watching a movie or show, Plex saves the current setup of enabled/disabled subtitles. If you start watching something and a subtitle was enabled, the next time you watch that specific video Plex will select that subtitle regardless of your setting.
I’ve run into this when I find out a new movie I got needs Forced subtitles for foreign-only text or speech. The original theatrical release has the text onscreen, but most releases nowadays strip that out (for some bizarre reason) and AT MOST include just full subs, which I never use. Once I notice the lack, I retrieve a Forced-Sub file and add it to the video. On resume, the video does not seem to enable the subtitle automatically, since the last time I viewed it I had no sub selected.
Long story short (too late), try out a new file that has subs, to see if Plex is now properly leaving it turned off. If a new file you’ve never watched in the past still plays subs, then it’s something else.
@dane22 did you find if it is a bug?
Just to let you know you are not forgotten ![]()
Still digging here
@dane22 Have you guys found a solution yet?
@dane22 any news on this bug
