Managed User - has to log in as regular / full member first...then switch?

That’s what it says here:

So, if I have all my adult content on Plex, and I make my kid a Managed User, my kid first has to sign in with my account, and then switch to her Managed User account? Doesn’t make sense. Kids will just log in and watch all the adult content. Any way to create a Managed User, give that Managed User a password (not a PIN) so that Managed User then simply logs in and only has access to what I’ve give that Managed User access to? I’m using Plex Home.

Unfortunately managed users devices are intended to be logged in by you, in the same physical location.

Anyone who has the admin credentials, IS the admin.

See also discussion @ Remote Users with Managed Accounts can access admin account

To not give your kids your credentials, Plex wants you to create a separate plex account, then you can invite their account to your home.

The sign in only happens the one time on the device to log in to the account after the app is installed and afterwards it is a matter of the other users selecting their managed user.

For example, when setting this up I would install the Plex app on my daughter’s device, log into it with my main account credentials and that would be it. Since my account has a PIN/touch id and hers does not, she can only get in and see the media I have restricted via labels from that point forward.

Even if I was the last person to use the device and it has the “Add User” option at the bottom, selecting it requires a PIN (or in my case touch id).

Btw, though generally the managed users account works well, I do notice from time to time when switching from my account to my daughter’s account (e.g. giving her my phone while in the car) is that one of three things might happen…

  1. works without issue
  2. will briefly show the contents of the previous user
  3. will jump back to the previous user (i.e. was my account, select my daughter’s but ends up in my account)…this happens maybe 5% of the time

Just something to consider/be aware of if sharing devices and using managed users.
