with the new way we have to give peeps access to our media library via Managed Users – there is No option for setting a pin! (…there was via the old method w/ 4digit link code).
When you cursor over the user you don’t see a set pin / edit pin option …
That is not a managed account. It is a regular account in your Plex Home. Regular accounts need to set their own pin when they are signed in and view that page.
aren’t accounts set up via the new methodology – where ya send them a link - considered Managed Accounts? The Donnabr638 account was sent up that way. That account shows up on both Plex Home and Manage Library Access screens. It is the First account I’ve set up using the new methodology.
I’m not sure what new methodology you are referring to but managed accounts can only be created by the Home admin in the Plex Home settings by clicking on the “Create Managed Account” button. Nothing has changed in that regard for ages.
They cannot exist outside of a Plex Home and will never show up in “Accounts with Library Access”.
Starting yesterday for me (atleast) to give a new remote user access to my media I needed to go to Manage Library Access & Grant Library Access and enter their email addy to send a link — Rather than them just sending me a 4digit code to link them to my server. That’s the “new methodology” I’m referring to.
So this is how I set up the new Donnabr638 account. (should I be able to set up a pin for this account via what I did?)
That is always the way it has been if the user does not currently have an account. If they had an account already you would just enter the account username.
That is not any official methodology and should never be done. The code on the player screen is to sign their client player into their account, not to link the player to a server.
Plex Home is meant for people you actually live with in your home. Managed Accounts are often used for kids they cannot sign in to various device or give out credentials because the admin has to sign into new device for them.
Well…since I’ve been a plex user (4-5years) - to give a remote user access to my media server - when they clicked sign in (from Roku app) - they got a 4digit code they sent me – I then used that via a Plex website screen to link them to my server. The 4 Managed Accounts in the screen shot up above were created that way. (none of these folks have/had Plex accounts themselves) (…per another post here I made yesterday…I was told that way of linking is no longer available – due to Roku reqs.) I was then directed to this “new methodology for me” that I followed.
Bottom line – Can I set up a pin for a user that was Granted Access to my media?
Nothing has changed the way TV player apps link to an account, except we added a QR code to for folks to get to the right URL to enter the code in.
Since they are in your Plex Home and have no pin, you can just switch to that user from the user menu on the top right so you are signed in as them, then go to the Plex Home settings and add a pin. You cannot do that for users that are not in your Plex Home, or in the Plex Home and already set their own pin if you don’t know it.
ah yeah I forgot about Roku. Roku does not allow a 4 digit code and requires a regular account sign in to be approved for their app store to be on their devices earlier this year…
but again folks telling you the pin on their device has never been any official method. Additionally folks do not need to be in your Plex Home to be granted access. to your server.
