Marking a "Collection" and Hiding Items from Library?

Server Version#: 4.76.1

If you tag a collection and choose to have items within it hidden separately in the library and then tag some of those items again for another collection, but choose NOT to hide them in this second collection, the items are not hidden in the library view.

For example: If I want all Star Trek series in a collection, I don’t see a need to list them independently in the library. This works fine, but…

If I then want to create a collection of Space Series and tag the Star Trek series with this tag, I don’t want to exclude any of these from the library because this is a “general” collection. If I do this, all the series I have in the “Star Trek” collection will now appear again in the library.

It’s a known issue.
Plex has designed the feature to prioritize displaying an item over hiding them.

IIRC there’s a feature suggestion asking to reverse this. → Edit: here’s that suggestion: Collection Display Issue

Right now you can bridge some of the gap by using a smart collection for items you want to display in your library (without impacting how other regular collections display them). I’m currently using this for an „Academy Award Winners“ collection (sharing label on the applicable movies; smart collection filtering for those labels)
