Match / Fix Match Not Working

Server Version#: 1.14.1.5488

Hi,

Over the past week or so my server has been unable to match movie info with the media I’m adding the server. It happens with older (1970’s) to new media. I’ve restarted the server several times with no luck. I’ve tried doing each media individually via fix match and i’ve don’e a refresh metadata on the library… nothing helps.

Any ideas?

If you can give an example of the naming, I can probably help you immediately.

First, because of how names get used, we sometimes have to add the year to the older to avoid it getting mismatched or failing to match at all.

One example: The Flash (1996) and The Flash (2014)

Sorry all media is named Title (Year)\Title (Year).mkv ie The Flash (2001)\The Flash (2001).mkv

It’s how i’ve always done it and it’s always worked.

Ok great.

  1. Stop PMS
  2. Go into the Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-in Support/Caches directory.
  3. Delete everything you see there.
  4. Start PMS.

Now, before rescanning, Did you attempt to rename the media after PMS scanned it the first time?

If so, you must first purge the old data.

  1. Move the item out,
  2. Scan files
  3. Empty Trash
  4. Clean Bundles
  5. Move the media item back in
  6. Scan again.

With all your media ready to be scanned. “Refresh all metadata” for the library section which needs it.

Tried that.

Now I’ve moved everything out and trying again. I think it’s got the same problem.

If you prefer, Send me the exact name you have, including extension.

I will recreate and see what comes up.

I will let you know that if you have MP4 files and they contain confusing metadata names, PMS will become confused because it reads that information.

For example; these aren’t grabbing metadata or posters.

Police Academy (1984)/Police Academy (1984).mkv
Police Academy 2 Their First Assignment (1985)/Police Academy 2 Their First Assignment (1985).mkv
Police Academy 3 Back in Training (1986)/Police Academy 3 Back in Training (1986).mkv
Police Academy 4 Citizens on Patrol (1987)/Police Academy 4 Citizens on Patrol (1987).mkv
Police Academy 5 Assignment Miami Beach (1988)/Police Academy 5 Assignment Miami Beach (1988).mkv
Police Academy 6 City Under Siege (1989)/Police Academy 6 City Under Siege (1989).mkv
Police Academy 7 Mission to Moscow (1994)/Police Academy 7 Mission to Moscow (1994).mkv

I am creating them without difficulty.
Your names are fine.

Would you please take the next step of clearing out the Agent caches?

  1. Stop PMS
  2. Drill down into “/var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support /Plex Media Server/Plug-in Support/Caches”
  3. Delete all you find there
  4. Start PMS
  5. Come back to the library section.
  6. Refresh all metadata
  7. If you still fail to have matches when it is complete, Please collect and attach the logs (ZIP file)

that changes everthing but not that badly. Unraid is (worry to say) miserable when it has problems.

I presume you will get into the shell and go to the “Plug-in Support” directory under there as root

Found it here;

/mnt/cache/appdata/plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-in Support/Caches

Did as instructed with no luck.

Which log files do you want me to send you?

If it’s running “Download Logs” and attach the ZIP. I need correlate it all

Well I even tried removing plex entirely from unraid, removing all folders associated and reinstalling. Tried adding a bunch of media back in with the same result. Here is the logs and database if that helps;

Thanks for the logs. Your database wasn’t necessary so I removed it.

I would like you to check your agent settings.

Please consider matching mine if you don’t already have it.

I tried that and it didn’t work. I did another reinstall and magically everything started working fine… until I got about 50% of the way in and it stopped working again. Just nothing. It’s almost as if it can’t communicate with the movie databases :frowning:

you are good for everything except movies?

I wonder if the problem is where you’re telling PMS to start looking?

If you have /mnt/raid/movies/Police Academy (*)/blah

you point it to /mnt/raid/movies and not above or below?

My directory is;

/mnt/user/movies

In PMS I have set up;
Movies
/mnt/user/movies
/movies

I copy the folder/files into the /mnt/user/movies directory so it looks like;

/mnt/user/movies/Police Academy 1 (19xx)/Police Academy 1 (19xx).mkv

I don’t move the movie or folder once I copy it to /mnt/user/movies/

Ok so there is nothing wrong with my media or folders. I spun up a vm with Windows and added all my media to a new plex server and it grabbed all the metadata no probs. So something on Unraid isn’t right. I’ve tried removing the docker and readding it… no luck. What else on unraid could be causing this?

I’ve had luck restarting my modem and router, it was able to start matching right away.

Thanks for the tip :slight_smile:

I’ve decided to move plex from unraid and onto a linux (ubuntu server) vm. It’s already matched half of my collection no worries at all.

Don’t know what went wrong but I think this will be a better solution in the long run!

Thanks all especially ChuckPA for his help. Pity it didn’t work out!
