Fix Match not working

Server Version#:1.18.0.1913
Player Version#:4.8.4

I’m got a movie. It’s file name is “Y:\Movies\Unviewed\The Mountain (2018)\The Mountain (2018).mp4”

The movie is The Mountain (2018)

I’ve set up “Y:\Movies\Unviewed” as a movie category. Plex normally correctly matches 99% of my movies. On the mismatches, I use “Fix Match” and I’ve never had an issue.

However Plex keeps matching the movie as The Mountain 1956.

Ok weird, since I included the year in both the file name and folder name, but ok. I select “Fix Match” and the correct movie “The Mountain (2018)” is listed at 100%, with “The Mountain (1956)” is a 98% match.

So why is it automatically picking the 1956? No idea.

Anyway I select the 100% match from the Fix Match list, the correct 2018 movie, but all the metadata stays as the 1956 version.

I try selecting “Unmatch” and “Fix Match” again. Still the 1956 meta.

I remove the video file. Quit and restart plex. Scan Library files. Plex notes the movie is gone and removes the listing.

I move the video file back into “Y:\Movies\Unviewed” and select “Scan Library files”. It picks up the movie again, but still insists on the 1956 metadata.

Again I try “Fix Match” and select the 2018, 100% match version, but it still keeps th 1956 metadata.

Help!

I just did a test and my server auto-matched it correctly. Also it shows it as 2019, which I think is correct, since the movie came out in July of 2019. Not sure why IMDB list it as 2018.

Doing a manual match I do see the results list it as 2018. Selecting that still gave me the correct info. Does your file possibly have embedded info for the older version so it ended up using that regardless of which movie you pick?

I checked the Windows file details tab and there isn’t anything I can see that would be forcing the 1956 metadata.

I also changed the file and folder name to “The Mountain (2019)” and it still loads the 1956 data.

I also tried using “Fix Match” but selecting some of the other choices (2012, 2011, 2008), but the 1956 data never changed. Plex just ignored the “Fix Match”.

Here’s what my Settings -> Agents -> Movies settings look like.

I loathe Plex Movie (reasons too numerous to mention apart from the obvious one already eluded to), but have you tried the ol’ ‘trick search by ID?’ (tt7950334) If Plex Movie can’t deal with that - add another reason. (Put the ID in the Name area and delete everything else - it should show immediately right at the top)

Also, if the initial meeting between my file and Plex doesn’t go well (a few times) requiring renaming (RARE with FileBot) I always try to Plex Dance in an effort to get a good bundle. Renaming your Folder Correctly AFTER this meetNgreet is always going to be a little suspect (IMO).

You’ve got Local Media Assets in the right place - make sure it’s like that for all your agents (perhaps not Music/Other - but certainly TV and Movies)

Not sure why it isn’t working for you. Can you retry doing a fix match, then get me the entire Plex log package?

Will this do?
Log.zip (6.2 KB)

I should point out, that this issue seems to be only with this movie. I’d added others since, and they went ok.

No. I need the PMS logs. From Plex Web, go to Settings \ Troubleshooting \ Download Logs

Plex Media Server Logs_2019-10-12_18-11-48.zip (874.3 KB)

Can you provide the screenshot like mine? Your logs show it matched correctly to the same movie that I have.

Hmm. Not sure what’s going on. Have you tried other movies to see if it works on those.

That’s extra odd.

The only other thing I can think of is to try unmatching, then clearing out the agent cache https://support.plex.tv/articles/202967376-clearing-plugin-channel-agent-http-caches/ and fix match again.

I gave this a go. I renamed both the folder and video file to “tt7950334”, did a “scan library files” and Plex finally loaded the metadata for the 2018 version, although it says the year is 2019.

I then renamed the folder and file name to “The Mountain (2019)”, did another scan and the metadata remained with the correct 2018/9 version. So my issue with “The Mountain 2018” is fixed, however…

I did try “Fix Match” and a couple of other movies, just selecting random alternatives. None of the metadata changed.

I’d say there is definitely something broken in “Fix Match” and Plex is just ignoring user requested changes.

I also did this. Before, and after, trying a “Fix Match”. Didn’t seem to allow new metadata to override the old metadata.

Eg

I did a “Fix Match” and selected the 2nd option from the top “Breaking In”.

And nothing changed. I still see the original (correct) Breaking Bad metadata.

Just noticed something else a little off. Plex is constantly using 27-35% of my CPU with no video playback / converting / streaming occuring.

Plex Dashboard says “Nothing is currently being played”.

A reboot fixed this CPU usage issue.

that’s not how you do that.

Fix Match, Search Options, put the IMDB ID in the Name Field, erase everything else, Search.

You don’t change the file name to the IMDB ID.

Well, it worked the way I did it.

And “Fix Match” seems completely borked for me. Plex just ignores the changes. Like I’ve been saying “Fix Match” always listed the correct movie, Plex just never did anything when I clicked on it.

Okey Dokey.

I’m sure what lays ahead for you and Plex is going to be very interesting…
(and you never know - perhaps you just invented a brand new work-around)

“Fix Match” has worked for me in the past. But that was a few months ago and many plex “upgrades” since. Hopefully someone finds the bug that’s causing this.

Fix Match is still broken. File name “The Intern (2015)”, Plex matches automatically with “The Intern (2010)” (!?).

I select “Fix Match” and select “The Intern 2015” with 100%… and plex ignores me and keeps the 2010 metadata.

Now this movie was one that I had previously fixed the match on, which worked at the time (probably around 2016), and I was moving from one folder “unviewed” to another “DadViewed”. So not only did Plex undo the previous “fix match” but also ignored my manual attempt to “fix match” after I moved the file.

BTW I updated to Version 1.18.0.1944. No fix for the above.

Upgraded to Version 1.18.1.1973.

“Fix Match” still broken.

Latest movie “The Kill Team (2019)”, file name “The Kill Team (2019).mp4” matches as "The Kill Team (2013).

“Fix Match” ignores when I select the “100%” correct match.

Still happening with Version 1.18.2.2058

Eg -

“/Heartless (1997)/Heartless (1997).avi” matches as Heartless (2009) automatically.

I select “Fix Match” it finds both “Heartless” movies but gives the 2009 version a 100% match, while the 1997 version only gets a 92.

Naturally I select the correct 2nd option…and nothing changes…again.

I also tried “Unmatch” but that didn’t do anything either.
