I was able to setup my Plex Server on my Synology DS723+ NAS today. When I initially set Plex up it synced all the media that was in the folders that I linked to when creating the different libraries, but my issue is that when I add new media to any of the folders that are supposed to be synced to Plex the new media doesn’t show up unless I delete that library and then re-add the library.
How do I fix this? I have triple checked that the permissions for the PlexMediaServer folder as well as each folder I’ve synced to the Plex server are set to read/write.
<If providing server logs please do NOT turn on verbose logging, only debug logging should be enabled>
I am placing the new media in the respective shared folder. Here is a short video of the issue: 27.05.2024_17.36.51_REC in this video I showed the shared photo folder, but the issues is with all of the Plex libraries. It doesn’t matter what shared folder I add media to, it doesn’t show up in any of the Plex libraries.
Instead of using the Synology pre-defined shared folder ‘photo’,
Make your own ‘Photos’ -or- Delete ‘photo’ and create a new one. (either works). I use “Photo”. (DSM claims ownership of all the predefined ones and blocks plex.
A little trick which makes permissions easier (Control Panel - Shared Folders isn’t the most thorough method)
– FileStation
– Right-click on the shared folder → Properties
– Be certain to “Apply to this folder, subfolders, and files” after granting PlexMediaServer permission (SAVE) but before the “Apply/OK” step. (Important)
I tried what you said, but it isn’t working, but it could be that it’s just taking a minute to link up. I’ll leave this discussion open and follow up in the morning after it’s had a chance to work its magic. LoL
Your terminology is not what I’m used to hearing here.
Sync and link up are only related to uploading and downloading watch history in this context from what I know of.
If you are adding media,
and the scanner is running (activity in the upper right corner)
but posters are not being downloaded from Plex.tv
and then displayed in the library section.
there is media that I have put in the shared folder of my NAS that is not showing in Plex.
Example: I have placed a picture in the shared Photo folder that I created on my NAS. That picture is not showing up in Plex’s Photo library. Meaning it is not there at all. This is happening in every Plex library where I place media in a shared folder on my NAS but that media is not available to use in Plex’s corresponding library.
If you go to Plex/web,
Hover over the Photo section name (left panel of Plex/web)
Then slide out to expose the vertical ellipsis → Scan Files,
What happens when you do that? Nothing?
If that’s the problem,
Please do the following for me.
Restart Plex
Wait 3 minutes
Now come back into Plex/web
Settings (upper right) → Server Name (left pane) → Down to Troubleshooting → Then click “Download Logs” (will be in the middle of the screen after clicking troubleshooting)
I do not have a proxy installed, but just in case how would I check that?
I do not have a Synology VM, and I just check and ensured that there are not proxies installed nor is the firewall enabled and I haven’t installed any Antivirus on my NAS.
thanks. I had an idea that perhaps my new router was the problem but I’ve gone through every possible setting and can’t see any reason as to why this is happening. I have uninstalled and reinstalled both the Plex libraries and the PMS on my NAS trying to fix this issue but I keep having the same problem. The only other thing that I could think is that my router is setup to run multiple individual networks as in one that is the one I’m on, and then one assigned as a guess network and then one assigned for IoT. Both the guess and IoT networks are disabled. And I just double checked that the Synology NAS is on the one I’m on.
I’m baffled. So what do we do now? I’m heading off to bed. Respond whenever I’m leaving this browser tab open. Talk to you later.
