Media Setup Recurring Reminder

Server Version#:1.20.0.3181
Player Version#:
Just updated to latest server version (was having same problem with 1.18.x version). Install went fine but every time I start PMS (log in) I get prompted with -

PLEX WEB SETUP

Customize your Media

Choose what you’d like to have in your sidebar navigation menu. (You’ll always have easy access to everything, so you can make changes and further customize your menu later.)

It PMS does not seem to retain any of the customizations (i.e. last tab, movie indexing, pinned items, etc.). Can’t find anything specific in forum or web in general and can’t figure out what’s causing it. This is a recent problem that’s cropped up in the last couple of months or so and I’m guessing it’s something on my end, but for the life of me can’t resolve it.

Any suggestions for a cure?

  1. In your web browser, delete cookies and website data from the domain plex.tv – once
  2. Make sure that your web browser retains “cookies & website data” from plex.tv
(many browsers will throw away these when you close them, Sometimes there is additional software on a computer which “cleans” the browser. Create an exception for plex.tv in there as well.)
  3. use https://app.plex.tv whenever possible
  4. in Plex Web, go to Settings - Plex Web - General - ‘Show Advanced’ - “Turn OFF Settings Sync”
  5. “Reset Customization” on the same page
  6. reload the web app with F5
  7. Perform the initial setup once more (picking the pinned libraries etc)
  8. Turn ON Settings Sync

Thanks for the quick response. I went through all the steps indicated and that resolved the problem. After experimenting a bit, it seems that the https://app.plex.tv was the basic fix. I have always used the Plex icon in the task bar to start/log in to Plex. That sends me to 127.0.0.1:32400/web/index.html, which immediately to another URL that actually presents the log in interface. Even after I have everything set correctly, any time I use the Plex icon I get back to the ‘finish customization’ window. I’ve got it sorted out now and appreciate the assist, however if the app/plex/tv link is the one to use, why doesn’t the Plex icon send you there instead of to the 127.0.0.xxx link?

I had the same problem in Firefox on Mac. I didn’t want to use app.plex.tv so I replaced ‘127.0.0.1’ in the URL with ‘localhost’ (http://localhost:32400/web/index.html) and that fixed it for me.

Thanks for the suggestion. Did you put this somehow in the Plex icon that sits in the tray or did you just create a link/URL in a folder somewhere?

I just added the link to my Bookmarks Toolbar in Firefox.
