Metadata download not working over VPN even w/ Split Tunneling

I found a few other posts like this but no real answers. Figured I’d lay it out and hope someone has a suggestion that doesn’t involve a VM.

VPN on - Plex doesn’t work/Metadata download doesn’t work (this is expected)
VPN off - Plex Works/Metadata downloads
VPN Split Tunnel - Plex Works/Plex Server settings can not be accessed/Metadata download doesn’t work.

I exempted everything I can think of through the split tunnel but I’m not sure what the Metadata agents would be hitting to make them not work considering the Plex Server itself is exempted and works fine.

VPN software doesn’t all work the same way. Some VPN exclusion and split tunneling methods aren’t equally effective.

Sometimes it’s more effective to include only specific traffic, instead of excluding specific traffic.

(Why don’t you expect Metadata downloads to work when the VPN is active? That usually works.)

What have you done so far?

To be fair, NordVPN JUST got Split-Tunneling. They’ll possibly work it out in updates.

I did try “enable vpn for” as opposed to “disable vpn for” but it seemed to work way worse for everything else so I just stuck with excluding. I think the problem is I can only choose running processes from a list to exclude/include. I guess I could try doing a huge metadeta check and see what shows up in the processes list in Nord.

I guess I’ll just have to deal with it for now and worst case turn the vpn off and update my libraries manually occasionally.
Thanks for checking!
