Metadata for Worlds Strongest Man

I am struggling to have the correct metadata for The Worlds Strongest Man.

Some days I have the metadata and see the episode names, eg “The Finals: Heat 1” and the following day it’s gone and I only have “Episode 6”, and no description.

My episodes are named like: “TV/Worlds Strongest Man/S2024/Worlds Strongest Man S2024E06 (27 Dec 2024) 540p.mp4”

The series is matched correctly because if I go to the series from Plex search: https://l.plex.tv/QGHpNNp

It says I can watch it from 1 source (my server). However, if from there I go into the 2024 series, it says no locations are available.

I’ve also tried naming as S48 as per TheTVDb but has even less success. Then it never shows metadata. With S2024 naming at least some days it does. I cannot understand why it’s not deterministic and works only sometimes.

Any help appreciated.

  1. disable “prefer local meta tags” in the properties of this library.
  2. name the folder The Worlds Strongest Man (1977), because that is its official title. Add the year to disambiguate it from similarly titled shows.
  3. look up the show at TMDB first, because that is Plex’s default data source. The World's Strongest Man (TV Series 1977- ) - Seasons — The Movie Database (TMDB)
  4. only if the order of the episodes is different between TMDB and TVDB, edit the show in Plex and set its “Episode Ordering” as you want.

Both TMDB and TVDB don’t use the year as season number,

so your season numbers in the file and folder names are definitely wrong.
Because of that, you won’t get any metadata in Plex. There aren’t any metadata for season 2024, but only for season 48 and below.

What’s bizarre is that yesterday it definitely was showing the episode names and descriptions and today they’re gone. But I’ll play around with what you suggested. Thanks

These probably came from your files’ embedded meta tags.

After renaming your files, you will probably need to perform the Plex Dance with the whole show.
