After switching to the Plex TV Series agent, War of the Worlds (1988) season 1 is not correctly matching episodes. I have ep. 1, and 3-24 on my server (ep. 1 is a 2 parter combined into 1 so I do not have an ep. 2).
The agent correctly matches episode 1, but then matches ep. 3 with ep. 2, ep. 4 as ep.3, and so on until ep. 16. It then returns to the correct matching until ep. 21 witch is matched to ep. 20 (making duplicate ep. 20s). the remaining episodes are matched correctly. Season 2 is unaffected.
I have verified the correct episode data on themoviedb.org (Where the metadata is coming from) and thetvdb.com.
Another fun fact: if I name ep. 1 according to naming conventions for 2 episodes in 1 file (War of the Worlds (1988) - s01e01-e02 - The Resurrection), it correctly adds episode 2, but uses the metadata for ep 2 from thetvdb.com instead of themoviedb.org and does not correct the issue with the remaining episodes.
The correct metadata is matched when switching back to the old agents, but then the cast metadata for other shows is inaccurate.
From the looks of it, that show has pretty much the same metadata across TVDb and TMDb, doesn’t it?
I just did a test and the official naming worked fine for me…

Did you use some “weird” alternate file names that might throw Plex off or do your files have embedded misleading metadata?
Nope. I used standard Plex naming conventions. Although a second pair of eyes to confirm would be helpful.
I suspect there is some data corruption in the DB, but I wouldn’t know how to correct it without rebuilding the server.

Can you share some details about your library setup and the configuration of that particular show? e.g.:
what scanner/agent do you have configured for that library (just double-checking it’s both set to Plex TV Series)?
what episode ordering have you set for the library? does the show override that configuration?
What happens if you create a new library (TV-Show type library w/ Plex TV Series scanner/agent) and point it to the same folder (F:\PlexMedia\TV Shows\)? Will Plex properly pick up the episodes?

I will try creating a new library pointing to the same folder and let you know.
Your best bet is to rename the folders and add the tags – so change the above to War of the Worlds (1988) {tmdb-2255}. Plex will never get it wrong if you use the tags.
I made a change to the original TV Shows library to use The Movie Database as the source for episode ordering and now the that library is showing the correct episode names.
Conversely, I switched the new TV Shows (2) library to use TheTVDB as the source for episode ordering and the new library is now showing the incorrect episode names.
I think I can mark my issue as resolved, but it still seems like something funky is going on with TheTVDB source.
