Movies will not fetch any metadata

Server Version#: 1.18.7.2457
Plex Media Server Logs_2020-03-13_11-27-37.zip (6.5 MB)

My Movie metadata will not fetch, that includes artwork but also any info about the movies (synopsis, actors, ratings, etc.) I have done many of the suggested fixes or tests. Everything was working fine, until Monday. I had my internet upgraded to a faster package and that came with a new router, I have Verizon FiOS and I believe it is the 3100 Router.

TV Show metadata fetches perfectly fine, I am able to fetch all metadata including artwork.

I have done the following to try and fix the Movie metadata:
Confirming proper order of the agents.
Checking and confirming proper naming scheme.
Clearing DNS Cache.
Cleaning Bundles.
Optimizing the libraries.
Deleting the Movies folder and re-adding it.
Manually searching and trying to fix a match for the movie, returns zero results.
Checked the properties of all files to ensure no embedded metadata with improper naming is causing it.

Before deleting the Movie folder and re-adding it, I used to have Metadata and artwork for almost all of my movies. Now after it was deleted it will no I lost all previous metadata and it will not fetch the metadata for the ones I previously had it for as well as anything that is newly added to the folder

I use tinyMediaManager to rename all my files to a proper naming scheme, as well as fetch metadata to store locally as .nfo’s. I read they could possibly interfere with Plex so I deleted all of them as well as any downloaded and locally stored artwork.

If there is any other information you could require let me know and I will get it.

I appreciate any and all help.

Try this:

https://support.plex.tv/articles/202967376-clearing-plugin-channel-agent-http-caches/

I did it recently.
It worked as advertised.

Before that - do this:

In case that internal metadata you don’t need in those MP4 files starts making your life miserable. Plex matches via File Name. Name your files properly. Jettison all the junk.

Nothing to do with metadata download, but you might want to add the language code to your subtitle file. For example: 3 Godfathers (1948).eng.srt.

Without a language code the subtitles show up as “Unknown.”

I did notice that on quite a few after getting them, so I am going to go through and update all those.

Currently I am testing the above, mentioned by JuiceWSA. Confirmed placement of Local Media Assets is at the bottom, but nothing has changed. Going to clear those caches and see what happens.

Still nothing is being fetched. I just find it odd that TV Shows is perfectly fine but not movies.

That’s what happens when IMDB and TMDB get corrupted, but TVDB doesn’t.

So you:
shut down the server
deleted all those directories
restarted the server
Refresh Metadata for movies with missing artwork.

and still nothing?

I am having the same issues with the metadata not automatically adding to new Movies nor can I force a “Match”. There is nothing available. TV Shows are NOT an issue as they continue to pull down all the metadata. This started to happen about 5 days ago. I have not made any changes whatsoever to my configuration or agents. I have followed the instruction to delete the Cache files and verify that the Local Media is checked (they were not have not been checked for years).

Last time something like this happened is when TVDB changed their API and the entire industry came to a screaming halt.

Any other suggestions for a fix to this?

I too have problems with the metadata for a few days now. Plex finds the movie, but often no poster appears. The portraits of the actors also only appear in a few isolated cases. When I try to change the poster to a different one sometimes it works, sometimes it shows a blank pictures as if no poster were found.

I have found the reason why my specific server isn’t fetching movie metadata. It turns out my VPN was blocking it. I didn’t think this would be a cause, because the TV Shows were not affected at all. With the VPN on movies do nothing, however when I turn it off all Movie data is downloaded fine. It’s a bit annoying that I have to manually disable it.

Two weeks ago, I didnt have this problem and it downloaded just fine from behind the VPN. I am not sure what has happened recently that would cause only the movies to be affected, but alas something did.

So if either of you, ReinerS10 or tommek83, are using a VPN, try disabling it and see if anything will fetch afterwards.

I am having same issue and I just noticed when i typed this address movieposterdb.plexapp.com on chrome browser on my computer and I get 503 error

I am not sure why I am getting this issue
I do have large collection of movies (500+)

as will everyone else - that’s not someplace you or anyone else has access to.

Thank you StavMah and you are correct! I turned off my VPN and now can I refresh my metadata. I thought I tested this before but I must have tested it with another issue that started at the same time (trackers not working). Is this a general VPN issue or specific (I use Windscribe)?

I dont even have VPN at all and I am currently still having issues
I deleted Plex completely and reinstalled it

I will try figure out how to save logs and send it here I had this issue for couple months now

Thanks
Dan

I also don’t have an VPN. Strangely enough, plex seems to load the posters, but cannot display them.

And here is mine.
My plex really does have a strange behavier: The posters are obviously found and loaded, but 90% of them are not displayed. If I want to change the poster manually, it takes quite a long time and it shows an empty poster. When I click on the movie and want to edit it, it takes a long time and it aborts with an error message: “An error occurred while editing this item”.

I have been having this same issue for about 2 weeks or the last 2 PMS updates that were downloaded and installed. I have attached my logs if someone could please take a look and give me some advice.PMS Plugin Logs 3-21-2020.zip (774.8 KB)

Anybody can help us?

Having TMDB issues too lately, manual match never works either
unless I remove the year field. Seems like TMDB doesn’t match anything with me when the year is known. Which is, in my setup
 always.

If I fix match, remove the year and search again
I get results. Which is really sucky to do for every download. Hell, since movies are regularly replaced with better versions, I often have to do it over and over again for the same movie!

Same here: TV Shows work perfect. Movies don’t. They “match” but the spinning orange circle will runforever. No VPN or firewall here.
