Metadata not showing up on movies lately

For about the past two months I’ve found that movies added to my library aren’t getting the rich metadata that they used to. These are popular titles like John Wick, The Circle, Guardians 2, and Wonder Woman. I’ve tried “fix incorrect match” on them but no luck.

I’m seeing things like this in imdb.log:

If I try to open that last URL from the server machine, I get a 401 unauthorized error.

So… a clue maybe?

I’m still troubleshooting this, now by examining traffic via a proxy. An interesting datapoint:

Any insights? GotG2 is what has got me stymied - it shows up as a second version of GotG never as Guardians of the Galaxy vol 2

No luck really. I thought it was because I had moved my Plex data folder to another place, and removing the old folder maybe solved it? But now it’s happening again on a bunch of new additions.

Same problem here, if i click manually on a movie the metadata will load, however the letter has to be after J in the title, for instance:

“Lion” will load the metadata but “A Ghost Story” will not load any metadata

There could be more going on here than meets my eye - that looked at your scanner log and pretty much stopped looking right there due to blatant non-compliancy issues for every single file in your log!

20 Million Miles to Earth (1957)

Won’t work:
M:\Movies
…20 Million Miles to Earth.mkv

Will Work:
M:\Movies
…20 Million Miles to Earth (1957).mkv

FileBot (link in my signature) can handle that file naming for you automatically or manually in seconds.

What FileBot can’t do is remove possible embedded metadata in the Title Field of MP4/M4V files. Plex will read this info and prefer it over a perfect file name/structure (you don’t have any of those yet), but you can combat that situation by moving Local Media Assets to the bottom of every agent list you can find. All tabs in TV Show and Movies here:

Just drag LMA to the bottom of the list and drop it. If you do have embedded metadata this will cure the issue, if you don’t it won’t matter. LMA will do what it has to from the bottom. In case you ever want to use an MP4/M4V file - this paragraph is something you should commit to memory.

Renaming/restructuring is best performed OUTSIDE the library and you’ll need to write a new bundle for the show so The Plex Dance® was invented:

The Plex Dance®:

  1. remove show/movie from library
  2. update library
  3. empty trash
  4. clean bundles

  6. replace corrected show/movie into library

Unless ‘Lion’ has a (YEAR) after it - your dogs are barking up the wrong tree.

Here are two possibilities I found here that might help.

  1. Disable IPv6
  2. Update the systems certificate.
    This is assuming the filenames ARE correct.

Disabling IPv6 was 100% the fix! I’d never had any issues with meta data updates with my naming & file configurations for years - and then this just problem just popped up recently - I tried your IPv6 suggestion and IMMEDIATELY all my meta data problems started fixing. THANK YOU!!!

I really appreciate you looking into that for me. As with most things, I tried “easiest thing first” so I took @NewPlaza 's suggestion of disabling IPv6 first, and it worked like a charm - everything fixed just fine. But, seriously, I do appreciate your assistance & the time you took to help me. I’ll be saving all your posted info should future issues arise.

All I can do at this point is say:
When things start going around the bend, that’ll be a good place to start looking.

Disabling IPv6 was 100% the fix! I’d never had any issues with meta data updates with my naming & file configurations for years - and then this just problem just popped up recently - I tried your IPv6 suggestion and IMMEDIATELY all my meta data problems started fixing. THANK YOU!!!

Yeap me too, all the movies metadata now load without problems

Until you bring your files into compliance - nothing is ‘Solved’. The problem is just ‘Postponed’ temporarily until the next time it doesn’t work - then you can suit up, hop over the ropes and dance on the canvas with Plex again.

A couple of times having that guy beat the snot out of me pretty much convinced me it was time to start following the instructions. It changed my life, Man! I let FileBot name and place my media ONCE - then I watch it.

Yes i have Lion with a year after it, the folder is Lion.2016…
