Metadata not visible and all videos not playing

Hi all,

I have seen a few other post with similar issues but none on the proposed fixes have worked to date. First thing is first:

Model and firmware: ATV3 (Firmware 5.3 (6105)

DNS Server on ATV: 192.168.1.133

Device and OS running PlexConnect: PC running Windows 7 (SP1)

Local IP of device running PlexConnect: 192.168.1.133

Device and OS running PMS: PC running Windows 7 (SP1)

PMS Version Number: 0.9.8.4.125-ffe2a5d

Local IP of device running PMS: 192.168.1.133

PlexConnect details: Most recent iBaa version fully updated as of 17 August 2013

Content of Settings.cfg:

[PlexConnect]
logpath = .
enable_dnsserver = True
ip_webserver = 0.0.0.0
prevent_atv_update = True
enable_plexconnect_autodetect = True
port_pms = 32400
port_webserver = 80
ip_plexconnect = 0.0.0.0
ip_dnsmaster = 8.8.8.8
loglevel = High
ip_pms = 192.168.178.10
enable_plexgdm = True

Detail on a media file: http://pastebin.com/zkeraS35

PlexConnect log: http://pastebin.com/1C38YwmC

Description of the issue: I have just set up my PlexConnect using Python 2.7.5 and the last PlexConnect from iBaa. I have followed the installation guide and PlexConnect is visible when I go into trailers (albeit everything appears to be loading slowly, potentially because it would be the first time attempting to load metadata). There is, however, no metadata visible for any of the shows (television shows only at this stage) and if I attempt to play one of the media files (.avi and .mkv) I receive the following error: "An error occurred loading this content. Try again later"

I have also played around with the ip_dnsmaster to mirror the ATV/PMS IP and have tried setting enable _lexdgm to FALSE. This has not made any differences, in fact when enable_lexdgm is set to FALSE I am unable to connect to PlexConnect at all. I have also switched off the server computer, router and ATV numerous but this has not worked either.

Computer and ATV both connected to router using Cat6.

I would welcome any thoughts on what to try from here.

Cheers,

Tom

To me this sounds more like a problem with the PMS. Have you tried using the Plex/Web client to see if everything is displaying/playing correctly from the PMS? Also have you accessed the PMS with any other clients?

Everything is displaying correctly through both the Plex/Web client and the Plex Media Centre on both the Windows 7 PC running PlexConnect, as well as my iPhone and MacBook AIr.

Odd. Sorry I couldn’t be more help. I understood that PlexConnect merely relays the PMS to the ATV via the Trailers App.

No problem, thanks for trying.

I should also add for anyone else who may have some ideas that when I change my ATV3 DNS settings to match that of the PC running PlexConnent, I no longer have internet access on the ATV3.

zalaph,

In your settings.cfg file try updating ip_dnsmaster = 8.8.8.8 to be your ISP's DNS server's IP, restart plexconnect.py and see if you get internet access back on your ATV.

Drewbie,

Thanks for that advice - that worked and I know have access back on the ATV.

I still am unable to load metadata or play any videos through PlexConnect. Any suggestions?

Hi Zalaph,

I have the same problem, and have tried most suggestions with no luck.

Can I just clarify, you have no meta data for content showing on atv? i.e no pictures on deck or at preview screen. Descriptions are there and everything plays fine.

Here is my config: There seem to be similarities outside of mac versus windows. i.e Plex Connect is running on the same machine as PMS.

Hi vaderboy72,

Mine problem is similar, albeit a little worse. No pictures (thumbnails) load for any of my content, but the metadata content for synopsis, episode name and ratings is visible. The biggest issue is that none of the content plays at all.

I don't know if I am glad to hear that someone else is experiencing similar problems... but I look forward to an answer to solve them!

Cheers,

Zalaph

Anyone else got any suggestions for my problems described above. I still have not been able to get PlexConnect working through my ATV3.

Zalaph,

You say your Plexconnect was updated Aug 17. That is quite some time ago development-wise. Please install the latest from Baa’s github repository. Also, update your PMS to 9.8.5, the latest public build.

Also, make sure you do the certfile SSL fix. I just realized you are bumping an old post. Please look in the Read Before Posting sticky thread above for the latest developments and requirements.

Even worse... it is 10days before the Apple inforces http/https switch. See http://forums.plexapp.com/index.php/topic/69410-read-before-posting/ as well.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the advice and apologies for not checking the forums for update. I have updated PlexConnect and PMS to the most recent versions. I have also managed to get the certificate working fine after getting the 32-bit version of OpenSSL (64-bit version does not work).

I am all the way through to installing the profile on the ATV3, but when I click Install, nothing happens. Any advice?

Hi all,

Apologies, I have managed to get the install of the certificate working. So everything should be up and running now. Yet, I am back to where I started on this thread.

I have everything installed, certificates in place, PlexConnect running on my computer, the internet is working on the ATV3 after following the install guide, but when I click on trailers it attempts to access it for some time before returning:

"Trailers is unavailable. Try again later."

Any ideas?

Yeah... now again follow the "How to report an issue" guide. :-D

New setup might give other data points, right?

Hi guys,

I have done a fresh install of everything today to provide new data points. Internet on ATV3 working and Plex accessible through trailers. Icons for all media remain grey (i.e. show no thumbnails) and when I attempt to play any media I receive the following error: "An error occurred loading this content. Try again later". Hopefully some of you gurus have a solution.

What version of python is installed?

Python version 2.7.5

>>settings.cfg

Why do you have ip_pms listed twice?

>>logfile: 20:51:23 XMLConverter: PlexGDM - PMS: 127.0.0.1:32400

PlexGDM is messed up. Do you run a virtual machine or something? To work around that, you could set "enable plexgdm=false" and point your "ip_pms=" to your actual address... *.119 or something.

But then... I would like to understand why you get 127.0.0.1 in return.
