Metadata: Rocketman (2019) not downloading Critic rating (IMDB)

Server Version#: Version 1.16.5.1488
Player Version#: Version 4.2.2

Only a minor issue but for some reason Rocketman (2019) is not downloading the Critic rating from IMDB (see screenshot below). Other metadata for Rocketman is okay and other movies have the correct critic data.

I have deleted cache but does not fix the issue.

This definitely seems to happen occasionally with some movies for some reason.
Although I use RT ratings rather than IMDB the same thing happens and Rocketman is another example. All I can say is that the ratings do propagate eventually.
EG. The movie Venom was another example that never added either an IMDB or RT rating at the time I added it to Plex (more or less when it released on Bluray). But it’s there now.

I do wonder if there is a wider problem with the plex cache pulling newer IMDB metadata as I’ve noticed an ever increasing list of movies with his problem – Rocketman, Men in Black: International, Dark Phoenix and Yesterday to name but a few!

Did you ever get this resolved for Rocketman? I’m noticing this behaviour on Spider-Man Far from Home too.

Nope, still the same issue I reported and the list is growing everyday…

One thing I did notice was on the releases where it doesn’t pull the IMDb ratings was the ā€˜originally available’ date is wrong in the edit menu.

Seems strange that it only happens on some releases and partially pulls correct meta data.

I have the same problem with this movies:
Birds of Passage
The Aftermath
The Silence
Rocketman
X-Men: Dark Phoenix
Deadwood: The Movie
Men in Black: International
Annabelle 3: Comes Home
Spider-Man: Far from Home
The Lion King
Anna
Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw
Killerman
Crawl
It: Chapter Two
The Kid
Child’s Play

And even more titles. Maybe there are missing a few entries in a database. But in what database?

Can’t be fixed. Only Plex can add/update the ratings:

This is not news to me so I would say mystery NOT solved. I’ve always known that plex cache some of the IMDB metadata on their servers (meta.plex.tv) so that when local plex servers request metadata its not actually requesting it from IMDB but is actually requesting it from the cached plex servers.

The problem (at least in my mind) is that whatever background sync process plex use to keep their what I will call meta cache server (meta.plex.tv) refreshed with updates from IMDB apears to be broken or is not working. This needs to be looked into by someone on the plex team.

btw… if you change the agent settings and switch the rating source from IMDB to Rotten Tomatoes the same problem happens for most of the new movies reported on this thread. IMO: The problem is on the plex side on their cache servers …

Oh, yes!

Obviously Plex can solve it! My point was that it can’t be fixed locally by the users themselves. Which might be polite to tell folks…

They really really should fix it. But I somehow doubt they will.
Imdb ratings are expensive to get, so my guess is this has been left broken for years for a reason. But obviously I don’t know.
I don’t know about RT, I doubt these are expensive to get. But I am aware they are broken and have been for a long time too.

Also, the issue is not just missing ratings. Many (most?) ratings are also wildly inaccurate to the point of being useless. I highly doubt Plex ever updates existing ratings on their darn metadata server.

It’s been particularly bad the last few new releases for not grabbing the rating. Nothing we can do but have a partially rated library until Plex sorts it.

Annoying really because we use Plex because we’re in the business of having nice tidy media libraries.

I agree that some sort of acknowledgement that it’s an issue would help and save people mashing that refresh meta data button.

@OttoKerner would this be something you could look into or ask someone from plex development to investigate ? Has been going on for a good while now and would be nice to get resolved.

For me, I’ve now given up on using IMDB as my rating source – I absoletely hate features that are only partially working and clearly this is the case now for IMDB ratings – I have swtiched my libraries over to using The Movie Database for ratings, refreshed my metadata and now have ratings for all my movies.

Oh! I was not aware that the tmdb agent actually provided ratings. I could’ve sworn I read somewhere in docs tmdb agent was only for some fields, not including metadata. Might have been years ago though!

Thank you for that info @anon5074910 , massively helpful !
Tmdb ratings are often also slightly incorrect, but usually within an acceptable margin. HUGE improvement.

In the meantime I manually matched my entire library one by one in tinymediamanager, exported all metadata to nfo files and refreshed Plex libraries. Now got exactly correct imdb ratings. Problem is - needs to be maintained manually every time I add something… And regularly for the entire library in order to update ratings. (facepalm).
Then started setting up Emby, as incorrect imdb ratings are a must-have feature for me.

Might try out Tmdb and stop spending more time on this ridiculous rabbithole…
