Looks like I can’t reach tvdb2.plex.tv when pinging but I can via browser (maybe ICMP disabled?)

New shows for me are not getting metadata but movies are.
In my TVDB agent logs I can see it matching and successfully getting back the proper poster with 100 score.
However it never actually inputs the poster or any metadata into the item in Plex

I am unable to refresh metadata on specific series because it is greyed out for some reason.
Fixing match to the same item does not work as well.

I have also disabled IPv6 within Plex settings.

What am I missing?

When will this issue be fixed? Is it a Plex issue or a TVDB issue? Or both?
Some feedback from Plex would be good. Even if its just to say we acknowledge there is an issue and we are trying to fix.

Seeing the same problem. Any updates on this one? For what its worth, I’ve switched to other 3rd party DNS than Cloudflare and the result is the same.

When TVDB went down, a lot of folks had trashed up Cache directories.

  1. Stop PMS
  2. Under Application Support/Plex Media Server/Caches delete everything
  3. Restart PMS
  4. Now refresh your metadata

This solved the bulk of my issue. There was also a sub-directory permissions issue in the localhost structure of PMS installation path that needed fixing. This was helpful. Thanks!

There’s more location to clean up. This is within each agent itself. Under Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-in Support/Caches perform the same cleaning

Looks like it was a temporary outage with thetvdb. I am able to refresh the metadata this morning.

ChuckPA, just to clarify
we need to delete everything under “Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-in Support/Caches” and “Application Support/Plex Media Server/Caches” to fix this issue? I have recently discovered that any new TV shows are not fetching / downloading metadata. If this doesn’t work, I am considering a fresh install as detailed here: https://support.plex.tv/articles/201198426-restart-plex-media-server-setup-from-scratch/

Yes, you should delete everything under the plug-in cache. Doing this is exactly like clearing your browser’s cache.

The reason we clear it is because, like your browser, failed downloads from thetvdb, imdb, or other sources do get busted up. The same ‘index files’ get corrupted and what it thinks is in the cache, isn’t.

It’s important to remember, if using MP4 files (which carry Title and Name fields) can have bad information which causes the metadata to not be retrieved. Just because PMS lists the file and recognizes your structure doesn’t mean any embedded metadata isn’t preventing the actual match and data retrieval.

An effective way to save what you have but effect a ‘new’ install:

  1. Stop Plex.
  2. Rename Library to Library.keep
  3. Start Plex
  4. Begin a new setup. Remember to give this a different Friendly name (something indicative of test) so you can delete it later.

ChuckPA, looks like you are giving me the file structure of a Linux based Plex Media Server. Any idea of the file structure for a Windows 10 machine to clear the necessary caches? I see two possible caches, but I don’t know if these are the ones to delete:

  1. C:\Users\Bruce\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Cache
  2. C:\Users\Bruce\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Plug-in Support\Caches

Are these the necessary caches to delete?

Also, may be unrelated but when attempting to reach in my browser:

The top part of the path above Plex Media Server is irrelevant. Under Plex Media Server does matter.

This is still an issue for me, recently changed hdd in my Nas and now no TV shows have pictures
 slightly annoying if i am honest. any news on when this will get fixed?

tvdb and tvdb2 are the proxies to TheTVDB. I’ve tested myself and the proxies themselves are fine. We’re at the mercy of TheTVDB folks and the issues they’re having with their API (which has been a few days now)
