Migration issue, can only access as 'nearby'

Server Version#:v.1.42.2.10156-f737b826c
Installed PMS, copied in the local appdata folder, can login, see all content, but in looking at settings, the server itself is unavailable.

I’m on the same PC, did a clean install of W11 fro W10. The difference is the the PC Name has changed.

I’ve tried deleting the Plex Online registry keys as suggested by Gemini, but that didn’t work.
I get the same error whether on a browser (used the server address, 127…..) or Plex for Windows. I don’t see any setting or registry key that can edit this.

Suggestions? I can’t be the first.

Ensure that your web browser is allowing app.plex.tv and 127.0.0.1 to access the local network: Important note about the Plex Web app - Local Network Access

Did you create a backup of the Plex registry branch before nuking W10?
If not, the server is not claimed, and has a new “identity” which makes all sidebar and home page links in your Plex clients invalid.

You need to claim your server (i.e. connect it to your plex.tv user account) again.
New Claiming Requirement for Windows

If plain claiming doesn’t work, you need to perform this procedure: You need to reclaim your server, but don't dare to touch the Windows Registry

Of course I didn’t back up the registry, foolish mistake.

I did the registy mod using the “you need to reclaim….” method. The registry mod was successful, but still not able to access the server. After the mod, i opened plex from the start menu as instructed, not the sys tray.

This will only start the Plex server. It should then sit in the task tray, from where you need to “Open Plex” in order for the claiming process to work.
I am referring to “Plex Media Server” here. If you only installed an app called “Plex”, you are not using the actual server software.

To claify, I opened PMS from the start menu.

I read in the “How do I claim my server” that one should Open Plex from the System Tray. apaprently AFTER one opens PMS from the Start Menu [which you stated in your last reply].

I’m seeing “initializing server” on the screen. I still haven’t logged in. I let that run for a few minutes, waiting for a change, which was “Something went wrong. Make sure the server is available and try again.”

Was I supposed to log in while the initiating message was on the screen?

Turns out, i have claimed the server, I see that in settings, but still don’t have full access. I was able to SEE the server, listed with the ‘Nearby’ server, now I ONLY see Nearby.

Regarding Local Network Access, app.plex.tv opens, but only connects ‘nearby’
http://127.0.0.1:32400/web/index.html cant be reached.

This is the problem.

What do you mean by this?

Server will report as either “remote’“ or “nearby” or “unavailable”

When I first posted, I was seeinmg both ‘nearby’ and ‘unavailable.’ When I unlinked all the various logins, ‘unavailable’ was no longer shown. I was also not seeing an IP address in the network settings. A reboot and a server restart solved that problem.

And now that I’m back to work today, I see ‘remote’ as the server location, so my problem has now been solved. It was the logins that had to be removed. I don’t ever remember seeing ‘nearby’ connection in the past, those are most likely connected through the same home network.

Thanks for the help, Otto.
