Mismatch Meta Data - Option to Fix Mismatch in dropdown menus missing

I’m trying to update some meta data mismatches for movie files like Abominable 2019 which is somehow matched to Abominable 2006. I’m new to this, but the support guide on this simply says that when you press on the … for more that there is a mismatch option. For some reason all I get is the first two or three options to add to playlist and get info etc, but nothing about fix mismatch.

Can someone tell me what I am missing? I’m accessing this from the web based version of PLEX using Chrome on a Mac.

In other words, I appear to be getting to the right screen and selecting the correct MORE area, but I am not seeing the fix mismatch option that’s supposed to be in the drop down menu.

Thanks!

Assuming the item is named correctly and mismatched:

You can select Fix Match or Unmatch.

If the item remains ‘Unmatched’ - ‘Match’ will be the option available.

Typically caused by lousy file naming:

I:\Noir - Classics\Bogart\
......Dead End (1937) [1080p x265]\
...........Dead End (1937) [1080p x265].mkv
All 'Extra Info' that isn't a File Name goes in [Brackets] and will be ignored

That will be matched instantly - 'cause Plex/TMDB knows what it is.

If your files can’t be recognized - you’ll be Fixing a lot of Matches.

Thanks! But for some reason I don’t get a screen that looks like what you are showing. I am accessing this via Chrome on my mac desktop and it looks like this.

As a result I can’t find the option to change the mismatch. It is choosing the wrong Abominable Film even though I put the year 2019 by the name hoping it would recognize it. Granted that originally it matched with Abominable without any mention of what year the film was from.

Well… you can’t Fix Match on media that’s not on your server - or from an account that’s not ‘The Admin’ - here’s what I see with the hosted app:

I’m not at all sure what’s going on, but it appears you don’t have permission to perform Fix Match.

Are you signed in?

My question would be are you a shared user and not the Admin user?

Ah! This may explain the problem. My son set-up the NAS server at my house. So yes I do own the server and have admin access the the NAS server files.

My son had previously set up the PLEX to his own account and then set-up our home Apple TV so it has full access.

I don’t actually have my sons PLEX account information, but I was able to create a new PLEX (non paid) account which appears to link to the PLEX files on my NAS server. Since this is my own free PLEX account connected to my own NAS server, what would I need to do to enable ADMIN access from that account to the files that are there.

I’m sure that’s a very basic question, but as I am new to all this and have no idea how the accounts work I’d appreciate your guidance and help on this. My son is unreachable and out of country.

Thanks!

Forgive my ignorance if I’m missing something obvious, but my free account is clearly listed as Admin. However, I can see that my son is sharing this particular server (which I own) with me.

I am guessing that my access to the server is actually NOT direct and is occurring through his sharing with me as a USER.

I suppose, since I own this server that there must also be a way for me to simply create direct access to it. However, I’m guessing that this might require a paid account? In any case, could you let me know if there is a way to link myself directly to my own server even if my account is free. Would I then have to unlink from my son? Thanks!

See below, but I have a free account for which I am the Admin. However, I am also a shared user. The server in question is a NAS server which I am also the Admin and owner of. However, I am guessing that my access to this server is not connected to my free account directly.

Is there a way to set-up direct access so that I can fix the metadata or is technically a server only allowed to be connected once with a Plex account. I don’t see any option to allow me to connect directly to the NAS server, but perhaps I’m missing it.

Thanks!

However, when I go to settings general I don’t seem to see the option to choose my server and so sign into it as the ADMIN. It says that it should show up on the left side bar, but I don’t see it. Again I’m sure I’m missing something obvious.

This is what it should look like. ( click on screenshot to zoom)

Can you show me what you see in Authorised devices?

He may have made you part of his Home - or Home is somehow involved.
Go to users and sharing and see if you are - and hovering over it, see if you can leave it.

When you are the Server Admin you should be the only person in the Home, unless of course, he is in YOUR home, then it is he who won’t be able to Fix Match… or something like that.

Home can cause odd things.

Also you are using The Hosted app at Plex.tv.
You should be using the local app which is usually here:

In your first shot I see Movies located on a Cloud?
I think it’s time to send up a flare…:

Can probably figure this out quickly.

The admin os that server is chiubaka the server name is Bespin Cloud

The account you are using on this forum han_cmxcapital_com. is a shared user of that server. An I am guessing that is what you are signed into the web app with in your screenshots but did not include the top right of the screen. where we can see the signed in user avatar. If chiubaka is also you, then you need to sign into that account if you need to do management of that server. You can’t manage the server while signed into a shared account.

That account is the admin of that server. if that is not you then tell your friend whomever it is to sign of your server as admin so you can.

To add, you cannot take over a server that was already tied to another Plex account, even if you physically have access to the machine. You need to first unclaim the server, then you can take over.

1 - call your son and ask for his Plex account info so you can access the server and unclaim it

OR

2 - call your son and tell him to connect remotely and unclaim the server

OR

3 - if you are familiar with using SSH to get to the NAS, you can use the info in this guide https://support.plex.tv/articles/204281528-why-am-i-locked-out-of-server-settings-and-how-do-i-get-in/ to remove your son’s account information from the server

Thanks! I believe you are all correct. I am shared user in my son’s Plex account and he has claimed the physical server in the house. His account is chiubaka and that is not me.

I am signed into my own account, but accessing the server as a “shared user”.

If, I understand what you are all saying is that the only way I can own my server is to have my son UNCLAIM my server (sounds harsh, haha!) and then I would have to claim the server myself.

However, I only have a free PLEX account, so doesn’t that mean that I wouldn’t be able to share this server with him or is my understanding of PLEX incorrect and paid has nothing to do with the ability to share users.

I also observe (see screen shot) that only MOVIES shows up under Bespin. Does this then mean that when I get this all fixed that TV SHOWS and MUSIC have to be mapped to Bespin or is there someway to link that WITHOUT being the admin and master of the server.

Thanks

BTW, For all it’s worth I did find a very simple way to correct the Metadata. It’s a stupid solution, but given I don’t have admin access it’s not a bad way to go in the interim.

First of all it appears that the Meta Data that’s incorrect was attached because NOT enough info was put into the file name (eg year). Sometimes adding the year to the file name is enough (worked on a few files), sometimes it appears that the Meta Data is sticky and needs a restart. All I did was REMOVE the file from the Plex folder rename it to something that cannot be misconstrued with the WRONG meta data file and then replaced it. Probably works 90% of the time. It’s crude, but it worked for me. Who knows when I’ll get ahold of my son to fix this. We both have better things to deal with.

sharing and remote access are free and always have been free

I’m not really sure what you mean by this Bespin Cloud is just name of the server.

Bespin Cloud is the name of the cloud server we are using (my son chose the name, it’s a Star Wars Theme).

I guess what I’m wondering is whether there is a way to install plex server onto the NAS Synology server and then MOVE all the files to a new PLEX folder and then claim them. I suppose this might mean that there would be 2 copies of the PLEX server running on the server and so perhaps that wouldn’t work.

This has been a lesson to forum members of misinformation and requested Information confirmation. hanSoloMD I don’t know if we should accept your questions when you do 180 turn and request something totally different.

I find your posts questionable, can you dispel my fears?

I think he is just wishing there could be more than one admin to a server so he and his son could add media to it and make edits when things need to be fixed.

@HanSoloMD it is correct that two servers cannot run on the same machine.
