Hi, I’m having the same issue on 2 different Plex media servers whereby Plex is failing to add a specific video file and I cannot determine why.

The video name = Taken [2008] - 1080p.mp4
Permissions = Everyone Full Control
Other videos within the series/folder have been added successfully.
I’ve checked to confirm there are no duplicates or unmatched

Is there a specific log file that shows why media was skipped? Or any direction would be appreciated.

Try Taken (2008).mp4. The year should be in ( ) and not [ ]. If that fails try adding a matching id Taken (2008) {tmdb-8681}.mp4

I’ll also add its recommended to use folders for your movies rather than dumping everything in a flat folder.

/Taken (2008) {tmdb-8681}/Taken (2008).mp4

Also look for duplicates

Thanks for the suggestions.

I’ve moved and renamed the file to:

“F:\Movies\Taken (2008) {tmdb-8681}\Taken (2008) {tmdb-8681}.mp4”

But unfortunately Plex still didn’t pick up the file after scanning library files. Any other suggestions to determine why its getting skipped?

I have checked for duplicates and there are none.

I’ll repeat that this is occurring on 2x media servers (Synology NAS and Windows Server).

I thought perhaps an issue with the file however it plays without issue.

Probably best at this point to attach some server logs after completing a library scan.

Thanks @anon5074910 for your assistance.
I’ve attached the logs

I think the Taken Trilogy (2008 - 2014) - 1080p stuff is messing it all up for you. Put all those movies under F:\Movies as from looking in your logs I believe this is the library path you used in plex and remove the Taken Trilogy (2008 - 2014) - 1080p.

This is how I have my versions of these movies …

/data/32TB-Media-Server/Movies/Taken 2 (2012) {tmdb-82675}/Taken 2 (2012).mp4
/data/32TB-Media-Server/Movies/Taken 3 (2014) {tmdb-260346}/Taken 3 (2014).mp4
/data/32TB-Media-Server/Movies/Taken (2008) {tmdb-8681}/Taken (2008).mp4

Thanks @anon5074910
I’ve moved and renamed according to the above.

Both Taken 2 & 3 have updated paths, but Taken still doesn’t appear.

Weird, could there be an issue with the database perhaps?

I’ve reattached the logs following the move.

OKay, so I can see the scanner has attempted to update things with your renaming of these movies. I also see …

Jan 16, 2022 10:54:59.257 [21136] DEBUG - Deleting directory [Taken Trilogy (2008 - 2014) - 1080p] (2966)

… which is good. At this point I think you will most likely need to complete a plex dance on the movies and see if that fixes the problem. I suspect it most likely will.

I’ll also add that I can see other movies with nested folders which to my knowledge plex does not support. Some of these are Blade Trilogy (1998 - 2004) and Beethoven Pentalogy (1992 - 2003) and Austin Powers Trilogy (1997 - 2002) to give just a few examples. While these may be getting scanned its certainly not what plex would expect and I’d suggest you also fix these all up.

I’ll also add that from the sets of logs you attached it appears F:\Movies\Lucy (2014) - 1080p\Lucy (2014) - 1080p.mp4 is also having problems as the scanner keeps trying to match it. I wonder if the - 1080p in the folder name is causing issues. I know you can put these in the file name but maybe not the folders, (I’ve certainly never tried and don’t see it in their doc which I linked above).

Thanks Dokuro,

I’ve just cleaned the bundles and performed another scan however it still hasn’t appeared.

Ill have to go through the others and fix them up, but would like to get this sorted first. Its possible that others may be getting mixed but its difficult to tell.

I’ve attached newer logs following the dance and rescan.

Also what log are you reading to see the import failure?

Thanks heaps

Did you do a full plex dance? It’s more than just clean bundles.

On the logs I’m sorted on date last edited and reviewing them along with the scanner logs.

I’ll try and take a look at your updated logs later. I’m away from my PC at the moment.

Otherwise maybe @tom80H might have any other ideas.

Ah, no I’d missed most of the steps sorry.

Just performed the steps and its now appearing!

Thank you for your help in getting this sorted. I’ll work on getting everything else unnested.

Excellent. You may need to perform the plex dance on them also which will most likely be messy as you’ll have a bit of work to get the naming right but it’ll be worth it in the end.
