Missing HD Movies

I have SD and HD copies of Harry Potter. All the SD show up and only a couple of the HD. I have pulled the SDs out of the file to try and force it. This didn’t work. I put them back, this time in the same file. So the file has extras, HD and SD version. The movies are named the same except " - SD" or " - 1080p" at the end.

I have been trouble shooting this on and off for months. Not sure what to do next.

Thanks for the help.

  1. please show the actual file names you are using.

  2. do any of your movie posters show a little blue 2?

  3. Are all your movies together in one common folder or do you separate them further into a subfolder per title?

HARRY POTTER AND THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS (2002) - SD.m4v
HARRY POTTER AND THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS (2002) - 1080p.mkv

Yes most of the posters are blue or blue ish.

I use a tree format. Harry Potter, then each movie has its own folder, then the extras folder and the movies.

Side note the HD are all in MKV and the SD are m4v

The blue 2 indicates that there are multiple versions of the movie.
You can select one with ‘Play Version’.

Chamber of Secrets is one that’s missing, but this one worked.

HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE (2009) - SD.m4v
HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE (2009) - 1080p.mkv

Ok I misunderstood the blue question. This make much more sense. It simply shows both movies in the lineup.

I used the folder name “extra” to keep it from plex.

This happens if you added one movie earlier
and then the second version later, but have changed the default metadata agent inbetween.
Then the first version is matched to e.g. IMDb and the second version to e.g. TheMovieDatabase. In this case Plex cannot know that this is actually the same ‘Movie’.

Can that be causing the missing movies?

Will “refresh all metadata” option fix this issue?

I still don’t know exactly what you mean with “missing”.
Are you expecting to see a poster for every movie ‘version’?
Please show what is currently appearing within Plex and which files are missing.

I can’t play the HD version of 5 of the Harry Potter (HP) movies. It only shows all 8 in SD and 3 in HD. When I removed the SD version from the folder and rescand it, it only showed 3 HP movies total. It not registering 5 of the 8 HD HP films.

Does that help?

FYI The “refresh metadata” did not fix multiple poster issue. It still shows duplicates. (not terribly important)

Please show the file names and the folder names of the folder where those movies are situated.

Why are all the movie titles in ALL-CAPITALS?

Did you perhaps rename those movies only after adding them into Plex?
In this case try the Plex Dance

I liked the all caps. Is that an issue?

The SD were renamed the same as the HD when they were added back in to the same folder.

D:\VIDEO\MOVIE\Harry Potter\HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE (2009)

I’ve seen instances where all-caps have caused mismatches. Better keep the file names exactly like the movie title is spelled at the IMDb.

What do you mean by “added back”? Where they already in Plex before?
Please perform the Plex Dance - with both versions.

The Plex dance worked. They are all there and they have the blue 2.

Thank you very much.
