Wondering if anyone has experienced this issue. I bought into the Lifetime Plex Pass subscription, purchased a digital antenna and HDHomeRun, and successfully setup my Live TV and DVR to stream from my Nvidia Shield. That was about six weeks ago, and all was working well until last week. I had to move my antenna and re-detect my channels, but mysteriously the Live TV & DVR link disappeared from my Server settings. I now have no way to reconfigure my live TV channels, and half of them are no longer working. I’ve been scratching my head over this for days and have no solution. Any help or insight would be much appreciated.
My Plex Server version is 1.7.2.3878. Nothing about my setup has changed. I simply moved my antenna and had to reacquire the channels from its new location. This is my Server settings menu.
I have this issue on my system. Not sure if it’s related to me downgrading to 1.6.1 but I’m able to overcome it by using IP address:32400 to get to it. Of course this only works when I’m on the network and not remotely.
I appreciate the time you took to write up a solution, chargerdan. Unfortunately, this did not resolve my issue. It’d be awesome if Plex offered live support to paying subscribers.
Thanks for the responses, guys.Yes, HD HomeRun is reachable, working, and on the same network as my Plex server. Here’s that my.hdhomerun.com/ screen shot:
Moreover, my Windows HDHomeRun app works like a champ, so it’s not anything to do with my router or its Asuswrt-Merlin firmware, which I update frequently. I suspect it might be a bug with the Plex server on my Shield. It does become inexplicably wonky from time to time, and I have to reinstall/reconfigure it when that happens.
I should mention that I can still watch limited Live TV on Plex. Some channels generate a playback error, I am unable to scan for new or updated channels, and Plex won’t record shows.
Have you tried clicking on Version 20161117 link (the one with the red dot next to it) and upgrading the firmware to the current version? Mine is at 20170815.
Got everything working with HDHomeRun on Samba, reinstalled Plex Server on my Shield, and still no dice with Live TV/DVR. I’m completely stymied.
That said, HDHomeRun now has an Android TV app that I installed on my Shield and plays Live TV brilliantly. Wish that had been around before I bought my lifetime subscription to Plex.
I’ll throw one more out there I’ve not seen anyone ask - since Live TV is a PlexPass feature, does your server say your signed in using the plexpass account when viewing it’s settings? (I don’t have a Shield, but presume it has to be signed in much like a Win/Linux/MacOS server does)

Yes and yes, to both JamminR and rodgerzeisler. It’s one of the first things I checked. As I wrote earlier on, the Live TV/DVR (Beta) link was present when I first setup my Shield with HDHomeRun. But in the time between setup and having to rescan my channels (about one month), the service simply disappeared and nothing I do brings it back. I thought that if I deleted my Plex server and reinstalled, it would reappear. Sadly, that was not to be. I suspect that Plex may have disabled the service in my area after the Beta period was over. When I click on the Benefits link for my Plex Pass subscription, Live TV/DVR is not listed as a feature. Which kind of blows. I bought the lifetime subscription specifically for the live television and DVR features.
I had a similar thing happen recently. I’m running Server 1.6.something and on my “regular” computer that I watch stuff on (an iMac) the DVR settings menu item disappeared recently. If I open up Settings directly on my server however (a different iMac), it’s there.
Okily dokily. Turns out my Plex Media Server did not auto-update on my Nvidia Shield. You have to go into the Google Play Store > My Apps and force the update. Thanks Charles at Plex for the support.
