I’ve set PMS to record a series which is shown on several channels, multiple times a day. I don’t want to record and/or keep all of those episodes, so I’ve set the option to keep only the last five recordings and to automatically delete any that have been watched 1 day later. I have several problems with the results.
Disclaimer: I’ve recently moved my server from a Win 10 PC to a Synology DS216j NAS.
First: the server seems to record episodes, almost at random, even when there are already five unwatched episodes in the system. It basically seems to replace unwatched episodes at about 1-2 recordings per day.
Second: all of the previous episodes shown in the recording schedule say they have been recorded (in the pop-up window opened when I click on them) but most do not show the play symbol and do not link through to a recording.
Third: some of the episodes appear to be missing metadata in the guide: instead of showing season and show number, they show the broadcast date (i.e. today). When recorded, they are named “xyz (1996) - 2018-02-16 09 00 00 - Episode 02-16”, but always have the same date and time, leading to multiple copies which Plex thinks are duplicates of the same episode, even when they’re completely different. This is happening with at least four different channels, but inconsistently: all of those channels are showing some episodes with metadata and some without. I have my suspicions that some metadata may also be disappearing from the schedule after the recording has “completed”, as the problem seems much more common in past recordings than future ones - I’ll keep an eye out.
Fourth: Some episodes are recorded but not saved. I’ve just watched a recording proceed, according to the schedule, but once “recorded successfully”, no file appears in the series folder and the play icon does not appear against the past recording in the schedule.
Fifth: I’ve just set the series to record all episodes rather than just a few and the first recording PMS should have made, and claimed it was making, has disappeared. I’ll wait and see what happens
Can anyone shed any light on any of these problems?
Additionally, some of the future episodes are marked with exclamation marks which don’t have any explanation of why they’re there: this is something I’ve seen ever since I’ve been using PDVR. Seriously, devs, what’s the point of a warning sign that doesn’t tell you what it’s warning you about? How is this still a problem when other warnings have text and pop-up tooltips to explain themselves?
