Missing seasons and episode titles on some videos

I upgraded my TV Shows library to “Plex TV Series” Scanner and Agent and things are really out to lunch.

Plex failed to recognize whole seasons for shows when in fact they were on the filesystem and some episode names are generic, as if no metadata exists. Some episode names are also the same but are completely different files.

I’m positive they were fine before the change.

Where can I go from here?

Please show directory & file naming structure exactly as it exists on disk including extension.

There are two things which will cause this:

  1. Extremely marginal naming which the old python was able to match only because there was no better option. The new scanner/agent is much more precise but does require server owners to uphold their side of the deal by having non-ambiguous naming

  2. File permissions (not able to read info inside MP4 files)

Here’s a path to a file. I hope this is what you are after: /media/TV Shows/Home in a Heartbeat with Galey Alix/Season 1/Home.in.a.Heartbeat.with.Galey.Alix.S01E01.1080p.WEB.h264-CBFM.mkv

Check your show order selection. The new scanner is set to use TMDB by default

If you used TVDB to name and organize your shows previously, there will be a healthy amount of them that aren’t pulling any metadata (or incorrect metadata)

To change that for the entire library

3 dots next to the library → Manage Library → Edit → Advanced

If you want to test that theory with just one show click the pencil on an individual show poster and go to advanced

Sometimes the changes are reflected automatically and sometimes you have to refresh the metadata

This did not work for me. I put though a couple TV series following your instructions with no change to the data

Your problem is with this specific show. There’s nothing you can do about it

This appears to be some kind of mix-up between the TVDB and TMDB

Apologies for the delay.

My QA library isn’t done reloading ( I did a rebuild of it last night for some testing )
I got Season 1 to match (which is all that exists per TheTVDB and other databases)

I’ll update with what I have as soon as complete.

The settings here are all defaults for agent & scanner.

I have more episodes to report on:

/media/TV Shows/Hannah Montana/Season 1/Hannah Montana - 101 - Lilly, Do You Want to Know a Secret.avi (This series is missing a whole season even though it is on the server)

/media/TV Shows/The Mary Tyler Moore Show/Season 1/The Mary Tyler Moore Show .s01e01 Love is All Around.mp4

This is using the TVDB order

This is using the TMDB order

TMDB doesn’t even list an episode 7 or 8

Here is what Home In a heartbeat shows in my server. See that some of the thumbnails are off. and episode 5 has incorrect metadata.

This isn’t correct Hannah Montana - S01E01 is standard naming.

I guess I have some work to do on that one.

Using this naming format i’ve experienced the same problem with entire seasons missing

This needs to be s01e01

edit: Chuck beat me to it lol

Do you have renaming program?

Mary Tyler Moore works for me using either show order. Make sure you don’t have any embedded metadata in those .mp4 files

I will have to go over the Mary Tyler Moore files when I work on Hannah Montana.

Can you recommend a free renaming program for Windows 11?

WHOOPS! Turns out I only have the first 2 Seasons of Hannah Montana! Sorry to have bothered you!

I mostly use this one but it only works using the TVDB order. Not sure if that will help you

This is an older version of TinyMediaManager I use for Movies but it also works for TV shows
archive.tinymediamanager.org/v3.1.17/

I think the new version that’s free has some limitations but it might work just as well for you

Thanks for the tips.

So I am using “library default” settings on Home in a Heartbeat with Galey Alix and the metadata is off. See this post above. Where can I go to help correct it? My source is Galey Alix Design under “Shop Episodes.”

@BigWheel usually reports these types of issues so I gave him a nudge. After he reports it, it usually takes 24-48 hrs for the changes to be reflected inside Plex

There’s a possibility someone might have to add the missing 2 episodes over at the TMDB to fix it

Looks like episodes 7 and 8 were just added to TVDB today on July 8 so TMDB will likely get them soon and we should get data within the next couple days

Neither sources has images though so I am guessing it may be getting them from the embedded metadata if you have MP4 files or just a screengrab from file

Excellent! Thanks! All my episodes of Home in a Heartbeat are MKV.
