Missing Smart Collections Views

Server Version#: Version 1.22.3.4392
Player Version#: Version 4.56.4 (web app)

According to my understanding, the following behaviour is native to all collections:

So to clarify:

  1. When viewing a smart collection, I do not see similar collections across different libraries, i.e. if I have a Star Wars TV Smart Collection, it is not linked to a smart Star Wars Movies collection, however this works fine for manual collections; and
  2. When i view an item within a collection, I do not see other items within the smart collection inline.

I would understand this not being native to smart collections as they do not use the library tag features, maybe a plex ninja can clarify and if so updates the support articles to reflect.

It appears “regular” collections will still show as related items – even inside a smart collection. Smart collections however seem not to be displayed as related media.

From the looks of it, smart collections are currently designed more as a basic container with some deviations to how classic collections used to work. I cannot comment if this is intended or some yet to be refined behavior.

With regards to other deviations, Plex had already commented that they want those to remain as is; e.g.

  • smart collection visibility → smart collections can be displayed or hidden but that won’t change how their items are displayed. The related “advanced tab” options are supposed to be adjusted to that (right now they’re the same as for regular collections but not all options have an effect)
  • smart collection order → order is solely derived by setting/editing the filters (incl. sort options). The related “advanced tab” options have no effect and appear to be obsolete (pending clean-up)
