I’m in the process of upgrading from a Synology 214Play through to a QNAP DS 453. At the same time I’ve made a decision to start using Plex on the QNAP instead of using the Native Video Server application i.e. Video Station that I used previously on the Synology. Before moving the data over I made a point of checking the File content was presented correctly on Video Station and that the File names and Folders were in a suitable and where possible I’ve crossed checked on TVDB and IMDB for the specific Program Title and corrected it to be …
TV Program. Series Number. Episode Number. Episode Name
On Synology Video Station the Content is Sucessfully presented i.e. all TV Programmes are matched to episodes and I have the ability to pick between different versions of the same TV Program / Film. So far I’ve moved all of the Data through to the QNAP NAS and have installed Plex Server onto the QNAP and I’m now coming up against various issues with the way the Content is presented on Plex i.e. missing or incorrect Metadata as well as the inability to pick of different version of the same TV Program / Film.
My inital findings are that Plex appears to be a lot more fussy / sensative over the files being used i.e. it picks up information within the file (not the name) that is presented incorrectly. For example Plex pick’s up the File “Title” as distinct from File Name. I can see looking at the File Properties for each file in Windows explorer that this information does match the information shown in Plex. Whilst annoying I can correct this information for each file. However there are other issues occuring over missing metadata and this has nothing to do with filename and or title and I’m at a loss as to what to do. The specific eample I have is a TV Series called Our Friends in the North, here Plex Initially Correctly presents the TV Series but when I drill down to each episodes the episode numbers don’t match and the Plex show “unavailable”. How do I get this fixxed ?

How do a make a choice of watching different versions of the same TV Episode /Film ?
When removing content from NAS the information is not updated on Plex. How do I get this updated straight away ?
Is there a way or mechanism of getting all existing files converted and to be acceptable for Plex i.e. “Plex Compatable”
