Some media files added, some not - NAS Synology 218+

Server Version#:
Player Version#: 4.12.3

I recently transferred files from a DVD from my computer’s media folder to my Plex Media Player folder in my NAS. Just as I have always done. All of the files show in the folder “Plex” → “Movies”. However, only 4 of the 24 files have made it to the actual Plex Server. They are all TV show episodes. 14 files are from “Better Call Saul”, Season 5. The 4 “special feature” episodes show up, but not the regular episodes. The other 10 are from the new Twilight Zone, Season 2, and none of them are showing. But all of Season 1 show up from an earlier transfer.
I have re-transferred by using “Upload” and “Drag and drop”. I have deleted and re-transferred. Nothing seems to work. I did change the titles of the episodes to make easier to find and know what they are, but I do this on all files and haven’t had this problem. I also changed my refresh schedule. Still nothing.
Don’t know if this matters, but the previous TZ eps are in the “Videos” folder, not the “Movies” folder. But all of the BCS eps are in the “Movies” folder, both the ones that show up and the ones that don’t. Also, other things in both folders show up in Plex Server.
So part could me that I need to practice better folder management, so any direction on which folder(s) to use and which to not is also welcome.
Thanks!

TV show content will be ignored in a “Movies” library.

Thanks for getting me started. I do see other TV shows in the “Videos” folder, including the previously loaded Twilight Zones. I moved all of the BCS and new TZ files into “Videos” and they are still not showing in the Plex Server. However, other items from the Videos folder, including other TV shows, are showing. Seems odd. Could it be something with the files that keeps them from showing up in Plex?

“Videos” in Plex is a type of content which is not a tv show and doesn’t need to download metadata from 3rd-party servers (e.g. private videos)
Which means it is not suited for the kind of files you are talking about,

The files you are talking about are episodes of TV shows. You will need to:

  • create a separate folder for this type of content
  • create a dedicated Plex library of the type “TV shows” and point it to the folder
  • move all “tv show” content into this folder, observing the rules for file names, and creating subfolders as laid out in Naming and Organizing Your TV Show Files | Plex Support

Sorry for joining the party late,

May I offer a beginner’s guide for Synology?

It helps to guide through the Synology and avoid some pitfalls.

Thanks to both of you for your help on this. Much appreciated. I’ll work on my folder management and respond back once fixed. Thanks again.

Thanks again for your help. I realize I knew very little about setting up folders and moving files into them. I’m still trying to figure out why some TV shows won’t show up in the TV folder, but only in the Movie folder. Specifically, older Twilight Shows won’t show up in the TV folder I created, nor will Season 1 of the newer Twilight Zone. However, Season 2 shows in the TV folder. Well, at least I am better off than I was. Thanks again.
