QNAP - TV Shows not displaying

Server Version#:v1.28.0.59
Player Version#:

Hi all, Ive had plex running for some years with no issues but after QNAP upgraded to QTS v5 i started having issues with tv shows but not all TV shows!

So lets say I have a Show with 3 series and 10 episodes in each. Pre the QTS upgrade they would display in plex as expected icon for the show, containing three icons for each series and the each having the 10 episodes.

However now they show only one episode out of each series and the other 9 of each are missing!

So thinking that this was QTS I downgraded back to 4.5 and same thing.

So then I completly reformated and re installed QTS 4.5 and plex from scratch but to no avail. Some TV Shows work and others don’t.

Incidentally all the TV shows have been copied from my iTunes library and all have meta including covers embeded.

Any advice and settings in plex that I need to change would be appreciated

Cheers
Steve

This usually points to issues with file naming/organization or issues with embedded metadata.

  1. How do you have the files named and organized?
Can you provide a directory listing, screenshot, etc?

You should follow Plex naming requirements as close as possible. See Plex DocsYour MediaNaming & Organizing Your TV Show Files.

If you change naming/organization, Plex Dance the series to remove bad information from the Plex database.

  2. Is the library configured to look at embedded metadata?
If using the Plex TV Series agent/scanner, edit the library, choose advanced, and scroll to Prefer local metadata.

I’m not sure if embedded metadata overrides non-standard naming, but you could give it a try.

Configure the library to look for local metadata then refresh the metadata for the library.

If it does not help, disable the option, as incorrect local metadata may cause Plex problems with properly recognizing and organizing files.

Hi thanks for the quick response.

Seem to have resolved the issue. It was a naming problem, but don’t ask why it had no issue before the update. Files were appropriately sub foldered :

Media Drive > TV Shows > Name of TV show > Season > Episodes

however iTunes (were they were originally copied from) saves file names as so:

1-01 Name of episode.mp4

1 being season and 01 being episode number.

Plex must now see the 1 as being the episode number and as all files in the folder for season 1 start with 1 it’s just ignored the rest.

Removing the 1- at the front of each episode has corrected this.

Not sure why they used to work though.

The plex file scanner has gone thru several iterations, and optimizations. Over time plex has dropped support for more and more non-standard naming schemas. If these where matched with one of the older scanner engines, unmatched at some point, and then re-scanned you will get different results.
