MKV metadata Editor

i have a question do u recommend a mkv metadata software or a way to edit a bunch of mkv files in to a single season like if a show has 70 episodes can u tell me how to edit the metadata file so plex can read the studio name, title of show, episode number, Audio Track 1,2

Server Version#:
Player Version#:

MkvToolNix, is a must

https://mkvtoolnix.download/

Let me know if you find one…
You can use MKVToolNix to set a title for the file. Anything beyond that will require creating XML files with that metadata to be muxed into your MKV file (again using MKVToolNix).

Usually the best way to get Plex to show the desired metadata is to make sure your files are named correctly and being correctly scanned and matched by the agents.

Plex only extracts a very limited set of metadata fields directly from files, anyway.

If that’s the case, we can give you advice about naming that will help Plex match them correctly.

Can you share the name of the show you’re working with?
And a link to the TVDB entry for it?
And can you also share a few of your filenames?

If you REALLY want to bulk edit MKV metadata, I usually use MKVToolNix to see the specific command that will be applied (Multiplexer menu → Show Command Line) and then create a shell or batch script.

There’s also jmkvpropedit, which was a GUI for doing kinda the same process, but I haven’t used it in years.

is there a way u can show me how to use mkvtoolnix

Have a look at the FAQ

is there a way u can show me by a youtube video i looked at the faq and i still dont understand

Can you describe again, specifically, what you’re trying to accomplish?

Maybe with some show names, screenshots of the file names, pictures of how they appear in Plex?

“How to edit MKV metadata” is a really broad question, and rarely necessary to make MKV files and shows work within Plex.

I want to edit the metadata for TV shows and movies that I ripped off of Blu-ray and DVD on to my Plex serverand I wanted it to show the studio the content rating like for instance Ghost in the Shell stand alone complex Studio would be production IG and TV 14

Or for movies like Titanic Paramount Pictures rated PG-13 I want to try to find a perfect software that can help me automatically look up the metadata and save it onto the file without converting the file and just saving information on the same file instead of converting the file with the saved information

I’m trying to look up a user friendly interface program without have to go through the entire tree of data to change because I would have to learn the the entire metadata tree in order to add the metadata on there

The server does not read metadata from MKVs, only MP4/M4V

I have this movie on my hard drive and its in mkv but I want the studio and rating to show

… and you shouldn’t need to embed metadata, usually, because if you follow the Media Naming guidelines, Plex will download metadata appropriately.

I just created a test movie named Pet Sematary II (1992).mkv and Plex fetched the expected information, including studio and rating.

My test file has zero embedded metadata. By following the naming guidelines, Plex was able to identify the movie and download the metadata.
