as of a week ago, some .mkv files are not playing on the xbox one. When I hit play, it just goes to a black screen. The app sin’t frozen as I am able to bring up the fast forward/rewind as well as back out of the movie with no issues.
I am using a Synology DS214se as my media server and direct play and direct stream are enabled.
Some .mkv’s play no problem and some that I watched 2 weeks ago won’t play at all now.
It’s a known issue that the Xbox One started having issues with some MKV’s. So far the developers are tracking the issue but unable to identify what is causing the issue with the xbox one.
The current work around is to disable direct play from the app settings. This will cause the video to remux into mpegts container (It shouldn’t need to transcode as long as the streams were already attempting to direct play).
I’m having issues with my MKV’s when direct playing as well. They start to play, but constant stuttering makes it unwatchable. Sounds like it’s a known issue.
Issues stuttering isn’t quite the same issue, the above issue prevents the videos from playing at all.
If you’re having stuttering during playback of direct play it is mostly likely something else. There have been reports of playback issues if you are on the preview dashboard (I did not opt into that,so I am not 100% familiar with the issues). If you are not enabling server logs from the xbox app settings, playing back a video that causes stuttering, and then uploading your Plex Media Server.log will help us try and determine what could be causing the issues.
I do have the preview dashboard so that could be related. Turning off Direct Play does solve the issue. I enabled the logging in Xbox One, but the log file isn’t in the Plex Media Server like it says online (I see no logs folder)
